La Wis Wis Campground Introduce
Located in Randle, Washington, La Wis Wis Campground, listed under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, offers a unique outdoor experience in a picturesque setting. Situated by a beautiful creek and featuring an old growth forest, this campground provides a variety of environments for campers to enjoy.
Environment: The campground boasts a lovely river setting, contrary to initial impressions of being a dark canyon. The presence of an old growth forest adds to the natural beauty and provides a peaceful atmosphere, particularly in loops like C which are not directly on the river. One of the highlights is the "Blue Hole," a section of the river suitable for swimming with slow-moving, waist-deep water in August. However, recent reports indicate that the campsite is currently closed with many trees down and roads covered in debris. There have also been past concerns regarding the overall maintenance of the campground, including debris removal and the upkeep of outhouse facilities.
Services: Specific details about the services offered are limited. However, the presence of outhouses is mentioned, with past issues noted regarding their maintenance. There is also mention of a single camp host for the entire campground, which some visitors found unusual for its size and noted a lack of interaction. Despite this, the campsite generally feels safe.
Features: A significant feature of La Wis Wis Campground is its diverse environments. While some loops like A, D, and E are located on the riverfront, loop C is nestled in a lovely old growth forest, offering larger and more peaceful sites. The "Blue Hole" is a must-visit, providing a great swimming spot with easier access directly from the parking lot via orange cone markers, rather than the signed trail. The river setting throughout the campground is considered lovely, offering opportunities for relaxation by the water.
Promotional Information: La Wis Wis Campground in Randle, WA, offers a potentially great camping experience with its beautiful river setting, old growth forest, and the popular Blue Hole swimming area. Right now, the campsite is closed. Went there to bike ride through it. Many trees down and roads covered in debree. I feel the campsite isn't taken care of as it should be. Last year, it needed a lot of debris removed and it's not getting better. I feel like this campground is not going to be as pretty anymore if not taken care of. Also, last year, the outhouses were not emptied enough and that was horrible. Such a beautiful creek that runs along it.
This is a great campsite. I had driven through before and my initial reaction was that it was down in a canyon and probably dark and not very appealing. Nothing could be further from the truth. The river setting is lovely, the forest is old growth and there is a section in the river where you can actually swim (called the Blue Hole). We were on the C loop which is not on the river, but in a lovely old growth forest and very peaceful and quiet. The sites were also larger here than on the A, D or E river front sites. We went to open river spots in the early evening so got to enjoy some river time. The Blue Hole is a must and is a lovely spot where the water is slow moving and waist deep in August. Note that the easiest access is not via the signed Blue Hole trail (which requires going up a hill then down a steep embankment) but straight through from the parking lot where you see some orange cone markers. We thought it weird there was only one camp host. Usually with a campground this large, there is a camp host on every loop. The camp hosts were not interactive either. Usually you end up having some interaction with the hosts even if it is just a quick high. As two females who ended up being the only people in our section on the C loop one night, it felt slightly vulnerable. Although the campsite feels very safe overall.
Beautiful campground with amazing hosts, they were busy all day from putting up the reservation signage, to us seeing them changing the toilet paper every few hours. If you wave them down they’re very happy to stop and chat as well and let us know some great trails to hike while we were there this last week. Thanks Willow and Gabriel for the great camping trip and good luck with Labor Day weekend! Amazing views of the cowlitz river and we will definitely be back again.
This is a beautiful campground in a natural setting. If camping Sunday night, be aware that the garbage truck does its rounds on Monday morning at 6:40am, even if it’s a holiday. I don’t think anyone in the whole campground slept through that one.
We came out the week of July 22nd, 2024. This was our 4th time coming to La Wis Wis. We love coming here. It's quiet, serene, & relaxing. There is plenty of trails nearby, plus the park itself is only a few miles up the road. The ONLY THING I will warn future families of is Site B-8. Online reservations did not provide any photos. But we did our best off of the map that was available online B-8 is almost ALL SLOPE. It's a pull through driveway, as well. You can fit 1 SMALL tent, and that's about it. I would say it's an ideal spot for a single person, or couple, who are car camping, or has a little tear drop trailer. Our camp hosts were SUPER SWEET, and allowed us to locate a "walk in/first come first serve" site that would accommodate our tents, car, and supplies. They then switched our reservation over to that spot. So we didn't have to pay extra! We have done weekend camping, and weekday camping. Of the two, we enjoyed the weekday camping way more. It was so quiet, and we never had to worry about other campers traipsing through our site, and there was ALWAYS plenty of firewood at the hosts site. 10/10 would recommend this campground to anybody looking for a relaxing getaway.
