Holly smokes I found a New favorite in Chester! Contactless entry spacious rooms with kitchen (full) nice large bathroom with excellent water and shower heads 😀. Comfy soft pillows plenty for each 3 each. And kinda soft for me bed. But I slept excellent in the morning I didn't want to get up. A/c worked quietly and efficiently. Rooms were very clean and you can see everything. But you know what you can't hear? The people in the next room! And it was a full house. Great price for the holiday weekend! Better than any best Western. We will be back!
We were 2 PCT long distance hikers needing a much needed rest after a particular long stretch. We got into town early and asked for early check in which to our surprise was available 4 hours early. We arrived at the hotel which is in a great location of all the food places, convenience stores and laundromat. The place was very clean and both TVs worked. The bathroom was filled with shampoo, conditioner and soap. We loved sitting outside the room enjoying a beer too. Would highly recommend this place.
UPDATE, 8/2/24: One star for my visit I came up to visit my husband this past work week for a few nights. During the daytime, I was the only one there and the only car there. My dogs had not barked once, and only do so at home when the mail person comes or someone knocks on the door or there's a huge ruckus outside, so I was confused late one quiet morning when my dog started really barking toward the door. I opened it to see a man spraying pesticide above my door and got a face full of wet pesticide. I tried to close the door as quickly as possible, but it was too late. Luckily, I had my reading glasses on, so there was less of it my eyes than the rest of my face. I am livid. How hard would it have been for the pest guy to knock on my door quickly and let me know he was poisoning the outside? But really it's not his responsibility. THIS is part of the problem with having an absentee owner operate a motel. They should have sent out a group text with a notification, or stuck notes on the outside of the occupied doors, or something, to warn people. The pest guy did not stop spraying either when he saw me. When I get face cancer in 10 years I will not be happy. There were other problems, like the TV remote would turn it and the TV service on, but the remote would not control the TV. I tried every button combination imaginable on the remote. No volume control(and it came on Loudly at 6 am) and I was not able to shut it off. We had to unplug the TV to get it off. If there were a front desk, I could have asked them about it. Also, the "dog area" has no light and it's pitch black at night, and the doggie bag dispenser had full size trash bags in it. Luckily we brought our own. I ended up doubling at the front desk when weary fire fighters came in after a 48 hour shift looking for a shower and a bed. I literally got my computer out to help them. Bad business model. Also, for all the workers who stay at this place, you will get no physical receipt to turn in, which may be problematic for some workers needing reimbursement. Finally, while the decor is kinda cutesy, the sliding barn door on the bathroom is not good if more than you and your partner are staying because all sounds and smells will be like there is not a door at all. Previous Review: The Lake Almanor Lodge has been my husband's favorite this summer working for a company that is fixing the Lake Almanor spillway for many months into fall. He's stayed at other places in Chester and Susanville, and this is his preferred. He likes Room 1, because it's perfect for 1 person and it has a kitchen. I make all his food for the week before he heads off to work, so a full size fridge to put it all in and a comfortable kitchen to warm it up in and rinse his tupperware is much welcomed and better than a motel. The one downside is that there is no front desk so if/when you have a problem, it's hard to get help. The TV in room 1 switches to some western channel every 30 minutes. It's like being tortured by video. He can't seem to figure out how to fix it. If not for that, it would be five solid stars.
I really liked the online check in process so you really just show up and go in the room. The rooms looked really nice, my only complaint is they are so small me and my brother pretty much had to walk sideways to get past each other, the rooms aren't big enough to put a chair in even. But if all you're planning on doing is sleeping and not socializing there then it's a great place to stay.
Just changed owners and the new owners have started the remodel process. I was in Room 1, a suite really. It is beautiful, new knotty pine trim and panels, full kitchen, fresh bathroom and good Cable. Really impressed with the unit and the owner. Robert was very attentive and is focused on building a new solid clientele.
