This place was amazing! The lakes were great! The scenery was beautiful and the owners were the nicest coolest people! Thank you again for the stay! Can’t wait to take my family here again! Definitely recommend for some nice laid back camping
We didn't camp or picnic. Just a stop for a breather from driving at this beautiful little lake. We noticed the geese, but they were not interested in posing for me. There were parents and some younger ones. It was a nice stop, even for non-campers or people who didn't boat or fish.
Beautiful spot outside Pagosa! We visited lake after being disappointed w/ Lake Navajo & so happy we did. We took our 3 dogs around the lake then visited the bait shop. The couple was so nice, can't say enough good things about them! Area is clean, water is clear, has great views & the staff are awesome!!! Will definitely return next time we are in town!
What a beautiful morning hike around the lake. Quiet, clean, breathtaking scenery. Great birdwatching. The guy at the baitshop was welcoming and helpful.
Nice place to tent camp. Affordable price for tent camping, which included hot showers. Nice to not pay separately for showers! Each camp site has a fire pit with an attached grill if you want to cook that way. The fishing is also very fun! There are canoes and paddle boats for rent, which my family thoroughly enjoyed. The campground is approx. a half mile from the lake, so the noise is minimal. There is a bait shop close to the lake that has everything for fishing including life jackets for the boats and snacks. The lake is a day-use area. I heard a few vehicles at night but it wasn't dramatic. I have yet to see this campground completely full, but calling beforehand might help. This is our go-to spot for family camping .
We are visiting Pagosa and took our kids over to Capote Lake to do some fishing. We maybe fish once a year, so we don't purchase permits or fishing licenses. Gayle was amazing. She set our kids up with rods to borrow, we purchased some bate and it was off to the races. It was a beautiful setting and we were able to see some goslings and even a beaver. We didn't catch any fish, but the kindness from Gayle and the ability to fish without all the red tape made it a great experience. We definitely recommend.
