Really cool lake. It gets cold in August. This campground is first come, first serve. The spots can fill up fast. We managed to snag the last spot around 4PM on a Friday. So it’s not at busy as some campgrounds. The views are great. Also, the drive there is fun and have great sights.
This place is absolutely gorgeous! Clean and beautiful and a fantastic temperature for such a hot summer
Beautiful, nice temperature, besides the restrooms the only issue we had was local fishermen set up their chairs 10 feet in front of our tent and another group a few yards down the shore completely ignored us till they found something to complain about. Would be difficult to pay $10 a night to have ones space invaded.
Love camping here. I have been told this lake and campground is in an old volcano. Would have given this a five if they had running water for campground. We haven't been there in over a year *sigh* but hope to visit again this next summer. Make sure you bring plenty of water. They have vault toilets there. There is RV parking when you first enter lake/campground area. Tent camping back side of lake and a couple day use areas around lake. First come first serve on camping. Lake is small enough to paddle or float across easily. Though i have not caught any fish there, my friends have. The mountains around the lake make for beautiful scenery and good hiking. I have also been told there is a fire lookout nearby that gives you a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
My children were in heaven here. Loved exploring and climbing on the rocks, climbing the mountains around it, going for walks around the lake. Very quiet at night. Not all, but quite a few of the sites are well shaded. Was fun to watch tons of fish jump in the lake and a bald eagle swoop down and catch one. Water isn't too cold to swim in, though it is something you have to get used to. I suggest bringing float tubes if you can. There's no water access to wash your dishes in or to put out your fires besides lake water, so it's wise to bring your own water in, especially if your camp sight isn't right along the shore. It's funny how you wake up to cows mooing in the morning instead of a rooster. 😆
