Lake Conasauga Campground is situated in a beautifully remote mountainous area near Chatsworth, GA 30705, USA. This location offers a genuine escape into the wilderness, characteristic of Georgia's stunning mountain regions. For local Georgians, understanding the access to this campground is key to planning a successful trip.
Accessing Lake Conasauga involves a significant drive on an unimproved road. Visitors consistently describe this road as "very rocky and bumpy," and "unpaved for like 14 miles off 411." Due to its challenging nature, it can take up to "45 mins to get up if in a low vehicle," and it is strongly recommended that "trucks and SUVs only" attempt the drive, as there are "a couple parts where cars would bottom out and have trouble." This means that while it's located within Georgia, reaching the campground requires a suitable vehicle and a willingness to navigate a rugged path. The reward, however, is a truly isolated and pristine environment.
The campground's remote nature also means that "bare minimum cell service" is available, and it's an "hour ride to the closest store." This emphasizes the importance of preparedness, with the strong advice to "Bring everything you need the first time!" Despite these access considerations, the challenging journey is part of the appeal for many, transforming the drive itself into an "escape into the mountains" that leads to a "fantastic campground." This deliberate isolation ensures a quiet, unspoiled natural experience, making it a perfect retreat for adventurous Georgians seeking to truly disconnect from the digital world and urban conveniences.

A great escape into the mountains! And into the mountains you have to go. The road is unimproved, very rocky and bumpy. Can take 45 mins to get up if in a low vehicle. Otherwise wow! Had a blast here with friends. The camp hosts are phenomenal, kind as can be, helped us with some much needed supplies and even a bit of firewood. The lake is nice, good for fishing but only one spot for swimming. Great trails all around for hiking. You can even hike up to a local fire tower! Unfortunately not able to climb up the tower but still a fun hike. This place is isolated with bare minimum cell service and an hour ride to the closest store. Bring everything you need the first time!
Fantastic campground. Clean, great loop trail and longer tower trail. Lake is immaculate and great to swim in. Quiet and family friendly. Unpaved road for like 14 miles off 411, trucks and suv only, couple parts where cars would bottom out and have trouble.
Wow, the cleanest bathrooms ever. It's luxury. The volunteers were an even bigger delight. Two things to know: 1. The trail in is rough and will take a toll on a mid-sized sedan weighed down with camp gear. So you can use that as a point of reference. 2. Bring firewood, a hefty amount of logs. For our over night trip, we needed about 2 bundles of logs to sustain our fire. The volunteers there were really kind and had extra firewood they gave us and it was more than enough for us. Lovely place. Please keep it lovely if you choose to go!
Beautiful campground. Pretty much every site is good and has its advantages. Facilities have always been clean and well maintained. Rangers will even come by and make sure everyone is in their spot which is nice. No cell service but that’s also a perk.
Small campground, well off the beaten path. Good size lots, though may be tricky when you bring a camper. They officially limit to 25’ trailers, which is pushing the limits on some of the sites. The lake is very nice, small but great to relax. Decent restrooms, not big but with full septic and water. To get there you will be driving a mountain gravel road, which is really doable for most vehicles, good to have a 4x4 but i don’t think its needed. We will be back.
