The campground's key selling point is undeniably its proximity to Lake DuBay itself, providing a convenient launchpad for boating, fishing, and various water sports. Imagine waking up to the gentle sounds of the lake, with your boat or kayak just steps away, ready for a day of exploration. This direct connection to the water is a powerful draw for those who prioritize aquatic activities during their camping trips.

It's important for prospective visitors to consider these points while also recognizing the inherent value of the campground's lakeside setting.

The feedback, while critical, also implicitly underscores the high expectations visitors have for a campground with such a desirable location. The sentiment that the campground "has potential" and "could be decent" suggests that with focused attention on guest services and facility maintenance, Lake DuBay Shores Campground could truly shine as a premier destination for Wisconsin locals. Its natural assets—the lake, the scenic views, and the direct access to water recreation—remain strong foundations upon which a truly exceptional camping experience can be built.

Lake DuBay Shores Campground, by virtue of its location, offers several key services and amenities primarily centered around lakeside recreation, though the quality of these services, as per recent reviews, has varied. Based on general campground offerings and visitor comments, here's an overview:

  • Campsites: The core service is providing campsites for visitors, accommodating tents and presumably RVs, given the typical nature of such facilities. The pricing structure has been described as "nickel and diming," suggesting various add-on fees for amenities or services.

  • Lake Access: Direct access to Lake DuBay is a primary offering, facilitating activities such as boating, jet skiing, and potentially fishing. This includes general access points along the shoreline.

  • Swim Area: A designated swim area is indicated, though recent reviews suggest inconsistencies in its marking or enforcement, leading to safety concerns regarding interaction with boats and jet skis. Visitors should clarify current swim area designations upon arrival.

  • Boat Launch Facilities: While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, a campground on a large lake like Lake DuBay typically offers boat launch facilities for guests to easily put their watercraft onto the lake.

  • Restrooms/Bathrooms: Shared restroom facilities are available. However, recent feedback consistently points to issues with cleanliness, with mentions of "dead bugs everywhere" and a general lack of regular maintenance by management.

  • Picnic Areas: There are designated "picnic areas" for guest use. Reviews indicate that the maintenance of these areas, specifically mowing and debris removal (e.g., pinecones), has been inconsistent.

  • Management Presence: Management is noted as being actively present, though recent reviews describe interactions as "horrible" and "harassing," impacting the overall guest experience.

Lake DuBay Shores Campground's potential lies in its inherent natural advantages and the experiences it aims to offer, despite some reported challenges in service delivery.

  • Prime Lakeside Location: The most significant highlight is its direct, waterfront location on Lake DuBay. This provides unparalleled access to the lake for all water-based activities, making it highly appealing for boaters, anglers, and water sports enthusiasts.

  • Access to Lake DuBay Recreation: Lake DuBay is a large and popular flowage known for its excellent fishing (walleye, musky, bass, panfish) and ample space for various water sports, including boating, jet skiing, and water skiing. The campground serves as a direct gateway to these activities.

  • Scenic Views: Being right on the water, the campground offers scenic views of Lake DuBay, particularly during sunrise or sunset, enhancing the overall outdoor ambiance.

  • Potential for Family Fun: With access to swimming and a general outdoor setting, the campground has the inherent potential to be a great spot for family outings and creating lasting memories by the lake.

  • Convenient for Local Anglers and Boaters: For Wisconsin locals who own boats or enjoy fishing, the campground's direct access to Lake DuBay is a significant convenience, reducing travel time to launch points.

This campground has potential as it is right on the water, but the rope designating the “swim area” was taken down during our stay and then boats and jet skis were in where my child was trying to swim. The bathrooms have a sign on the door asking that everyone do their part to keep them clean, but I’m wonder when the campground is going to do their part??? There was so many dead bugs everywhere in there and once again, these could have been decent. As stated in other reviews, they have no problem nickel and diming you for everything but can’t even mow the “picnic area” or pick up the mass amount of pinecones? What a terrible shame, this could be a decent campground.

The management at this campsite is horrible. They will bother you at all times of the day for random things. They are not nice about it what so ever. Bathrooms are never clean, campsites are not the cleanest and way over priced. Would not recommend staying here. We tried having a relaxing weekend but got pretty much supervised and harassed our whole stay. If I could post zero stars I would.

This place nickels and dimes you any chance they can. Bathrooms are disgustingly. Memorial Day weekend and management waits til last minute to have things ready. Shame because this place has so much potential for better ownership.

This campground had a nice location for being closer to Wausau. Other than that I can’t give it to high of a rating. The bathrooms, by campsites, were not clean, there wasn’t a mirror in the bathroom, and for the showers you have to pull a chain to get water to come out. This makes it extremely difficult to just wash…The bathrooms up by the main office were a bit better but when I took a shower the water was very hot, you can’t control the water temp, but that bathroom did at least have a mirror. We camp in a pop-up so I rely on the bathrooms to get ready.

Stayed June 2024. This place is in Disrepair. The bathrooms are dirty, and everything is falling apart. Sites are not mowed, and the game room is now a storage room of old arcade games and garbage. Dock was not on the river, and there was hardly anyone staying there. Store clerk was friendly, but charged my 3 family members $5 a head to visit for 2 hours. For what we got was not worth the price.
