Customer Reviews
While most of the campsites available are acceptable, none are amazing. They all have a table and fire pit, which is nice. However, when I came in mid-May, a decent portion of the nicer sites were closed due to what I can only assume is poor maintenance. They were essentially flooded, which made the campground feel like it was on the edge of a swamp. You are a 3 minute walk from the boat launch and pier, so you can't see the Lake from where you camp. The price has risen to $25 per night, and while I have to think it's got to be nicer at other times of the year, I cannot recommended a stay past a night or two right now. Spend the little extra to stay at a nicer campground nearby (there are so many) and truly enjoy your visit. If they lowered the price to $10-15 I could still probably recommend it.
This is a very conveniently located, no-frills campground located just a mile east of the shops and restaurants of Tahoe City. It is only $20/day, compared to $35 for the state-run campground next to Safeway/CVS. It is first come-first serve, so when summer ramps up, you just have to drive in and hope there's a spot open. Happy Camping!
Our campground got sold twice..!!! we had already camped for one night in the morning of the next day we paid for another night. We paid early so we wouldn't be worried about paying later in the day so we could enjoy the lake. So once we finish our night at the lake we return to our campsite and come to find another family camping on our site with their tents set up and enjoying a bon fire ON OUR SITE.!!! While our tent and stuff was all set up.Bathrooms are REALLY NASTY.!! Park is not maintain at all
Even if it's only $20, don't expect to get much bang for your buck from this campsite. It was muddy, desperately needed weeding, full of mosquitos, the portapotties were disgusting, and the only tap meant to have running water didn't actually work. Better to spend a few more bucks and somewhere with a little more maintenance. Lake Forest campground looked like it hadn't been taken care of in years. It was conveniently near the lake tho, within a short walk there.
Great place for car camping! They allow dogs and it's only $20. Access to the lake is right next to the boat ramp so not the greatest swimming area. But their dog hospitality is rare in a tourist place like this. Even though the signs say to be leashed, the attendant clarified multiple times that it was ok to have them off leash. The port o potties were spotless and I saw zero mosquitoes. Maybe it was luck. :)
