Nice place for leisurely non-paved, scenic bike ride. Very easy mountain biking if you can call it that. The hardest part is finding the trail. There are no signs. Drive towards the beach. The trail is to the left and the right of the main building by the beach. You will still have to hunt for it.
The lake is beautiful. The beach is clean and has a concession stand. The camp sites are nice and surrounded by trees. There is a picnic area and boat launch as well. We used our kayaks several times. There's also a trail all the way around the lake. Great place to walk and bicycle rides.
I stayed here for 3 nights earlier this week. The sites are big with trees between the sites for privacy. The lake was so beautiful and relaxing to walk around and just stare at from camp! The shower house was clean, the water HOT and the water pressure amazing! Camp hosts were so helpful. I was camping while my 92 year old mom was at home alone. The downside was cell service. Again, we go to check out, but sometimes we need to be available. I was able to drive about 3 miles up the hill to get cell service in a parking lot at an UI Agricultural Research center. They checked on me too! I did several hikes from here, it is very centrally located to Garden of the Gods, Millstone Bluffs, Burden Falls, Lusk Creek, Sand Cave, Bell Smith Springs, Rim Rock/Pounds Hollow, Cave in Rock.
This was one of the best campgrounds that I have been to. I visited in December but the hosts were still very attentive, helpful, and friendly. I had a wonderful site right by the lake, I will absolutely return.
Stayed at the campground in my RV for a night. The camp host was very helpful and congenial.
Can't speak more highly of this place. We have gone in the spring and summer. The fishing was good. We only had shore access. They had many types of hikes. The one around the lake is quite easy. There are others that are more advanced. Watch out for mountain bikes as they share the trail throughout the park.
We decided to camp here mostly based on the camp hosts that we talked to. They were really sweet, nice, and helpful. Because of our quick visit with them we decided to camp here. The camp site we chose was very spacious and relatively level for our small camper. The camp sites are plentiful without being on top of each other. We chose to camp in a non-electic site, as we have full solar power wi t h battery backup in our camper. The place was busy the weekend we were there but not too busy that it was annoying. There were several children playing throughout the day. I must give kudos for this place because as soon as it was dark it was quiet. Everyone seemed to follow the rules. We will be going back again and will probably take some other campers with us. They have single and double campsites available, too.
