This was the first time at Lake Gunterville State Park. We had a great time and enjoyed camping. The campground is clean and deer are everywhere in the park. They will come right up to you. Stayed in the F section, campsites are spread out and not very level. The playground was really the only disappointment. It could really use some major updating. There's a couple of see-saws, swings, merry-go-round, and a concrete culvert to crawl through. We will definitely camp here again.
Found a voucher that I had for a 1-night stay and dining room credit, but during COVID closures in 2020. Called and explained when the voucher was from but was told it is expired and they cannot honor. I understand. Just a bummer.
The State Parks are making it harder and harder to stay here. They expect you to pay for you reservation completely upfront even if it is a year away. The cost has more than doubled in the last 15 or so years. They also won't give a refund if a hurricane is headed our way. In other words, you can go home but you will not get a refund. We have come here for 21 years and have loved every moment but we are rethinking our choice now.
Camped in our camper a few years ago and really enjoyed the trip. Deer roam freely through the park. Fishing was great too! The deer are almost tame and so beautiful to watch. The evenings and early morning they're all over the grassy area, they even pose for pics.
The scenery is stunning! So much to see and do here. I've always loved visiting this park and camping out here!
We stayed in Camper Cabin 46. It faces the lake. The deer came to the cabin every evening, and the geese and osprey are very active in the area. We hiked The Trail of Tears and The Cave Trail and loved both. The staff at the store are very kind and helpful. The cabin was clean, and the bathhouse was clean if you needed it.
Stayed in site 41 in a 38’ 5th wheel. Muddy gravel as they had rain. Definite slope, but we worked with. Lake is beautiful. They have nature activities and boat rentals. Staff was very nice.
