Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground Introduce
Within the extensive and varied category of Campgrounds & RV Parks, Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground offers a serene and well-equipped outdoor experience. As a part of Lake Mary Ronan State Park, it provides a quiet and picturesque escape nestled amidst a beautiful boreal forest, just a short drive from the much larger Flathead Lake. This campground caters to a wide range of visitors, from tent campers to RV enthusiasts, and is particularly noted for its excellent fishing opportunities and abundant natural beauty.
Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground is situated on 120 acres at an elevation of 3,770 feet, alongside the tranquil Lake Mary Ronan. The environment is characterized by a peaceful blend of dense Douglas fir and Western larch trees that provide ample shade and a sense of seclusion for campers. The lake itself is a focal point, offering calm waters ideal for various recreational pursuits. The surrounding area is rich in natural beauty, with numerous trails that lead into the forest, abundant with wildflowers and diverse wildlife.
The park's location, "off the beaten path just 7 miles west of Flathead Lake," contributes to its quietude and serenity, offering a less crowded alternative to some of the more bustling recreational areas in Montana. Visitors can expect to enjoy fresh air, the sounds of nature, and picturesque views, particularly of the lake and its forested shores. The climate here is typical of Western Montana, with warm summers and cooler, potentially snowy, shoulder seasons. The area lies between the Salish and Mission Mountain ranges, providing a beautiful backdrop to the lakeside setting.
Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground is well-equipped to ensure a comfortable and convenient camping experience. The state park campground offers 25 campsites, providing ample space for both tent campers and RVs. Many of these campsites, specifically 22 out of 25, feature seasonal electricity at individual sites, a significant convenience for RV and trailer users. The campground features paved roads and spurs, making access easy even for larger vehicles. RVs up to 45 feet can be accommodated at some sites, with full hookups available at some privately operated RV sites nearby, such as those at The Lodge & Resort at Lake Mary Ronan, which offer 50-amp service, concrete pads, and patios.
The campground also provides well-maintained restrooms with flush toilets, a highly valued amenity. Potable water is available throughout the campground, typically from May through September. Each campsite generally includes a picnic table and an established fire pit, perfect for outdoor meals and evening campfires (always check for current fire restrictions). A new and improved group camping area is also available, along with dedicated boat trailer parking and a public boat ramp, making it easy for visitors to launch their watercraft. The campground typically opens around May 1st (earlier if conditions allow) and remains open until November 30th, with electricity usually available through October. There are bear-resistant storage lockers to help campers secure their food and deter wildlife. Firewood is often available for sale at the park. Fees for campsites range from $4-$34 per night, depending on the season and amenities, and reservations are highly recommended, especially for the 18 reservable sites and the group camping area, which can be booked via Reserve America. A day-use entrance fee of $8 per vehicle ($4 for walk-ins/bicyclists) applies, though a Nonresident Entrance Pass provides free entry.
Lake Mary Ronan is primarily renowned as an excellent fishing destination. The lake is well-stocked with a variety of fish species, including kokanee salmon, trout, bass, and perch, offering plentiful opportunities for anglers from boats or the park's boat dock. Ice fishing is also a popular activity during the winter months when conditions permit. The presence of a boat launch and dock further enhances access to the lake for various water activities.
Beyond fishing, the lake invites a range of water sports. Visitors can enjoy boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and swimming. While there isn't a designated public beach, access to the lake for swimming is available. The Lodge & Resort at Lake Mary Ronan, a private entity nearby, offers rentals for fishing boats, pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboats, and paddleboards, providing convenient access to water recreation for those who don't bring their own equipment. For land-based activities, numerous hiking trails lead from the campground into the surrounding forests, which are known for their abundance of wildflowers in spring and summer. These trails are also suitable for snowshoeing during the winter months, offering year-round outdoor opportunities. Wildlife viewing is also a significant feature, with deer and bighorn sheep commonly spotted, and the possibility of seeing black bears, grizzly bears, and mountain lions. Birdwatchers will appreciate the diverse avian population, including Sandhill Cranes nesting at the lake's southern end, ducks, grebes, gulls, and even trumpeter swans, along with various songbirds and nesting Bald Eagles. The park also features amenities like pickleball courts and horseshoes at the nearby lodge, providing additional recreational options.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit to Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground, it is highly advisable to make reservations in advance, especially during the peak season from May through September. Reservations can be made through the Montana State Parks website via Reserve America. ADA-accessible campsites are available for those with disabilities, requiring proof of eligibility upon arrival. It is always wise to check for current park alerts, such as fire restrictions, water availability, or any temporary closures, by contacting Lake Mary Ronan State Park directly (phone number: 406-849-5082 during operating season or 406-755-2706 during off-season).
Visitors should be mindful of the park's rules, including keeping pets on a leash and properly storing food in bear-resistant containers or vehicles to deter wildlife. While the campground offers a peaceful retreat, the nearby town of Dayton and the broader Flathead Lake area provide additional services, dining options, and attractions. The Lodge & Resort at Lake Mary Ronan, situated on the lake, offers a full-service restaurant and bar, providing convenient dining alternatives for campers. Located only 7 miles from Flathead Lake, 40 miles from Bigfork, 55 miles from Whitefish, and approximately 74 miles from Glacier National Park, Lake Mary Ronan Lodge Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the wider Flathead Valley and its numerous attractions. It's a perfect destination for families, anglers, and anyone seeking a tranquil yet active outdoor experience in the heart of Montana's beautiful Glacier Country.

Customer Reviews
Wouldn’t let me just review the lake so I had to do the lodge campground. Great place for a day at the lake, tends to get packed quick though on weekends and holidays
We greatly enjoyed our dinner and evening walk at Lake Mary Ronan Lodge! The outside seating, bar, and indoor seating were beautiful, all the staff and new owners were wonderfully pleasant and attentive, and the food was fantastic, best we've had in this entire area, kudos to the chef! The ribeye (served with delicious mushroom risotto) and cioppino (special) were perfect, as were out appetizers of scallops and crab cakes. So happy to have found this, we will go back often! Thank you!
We wish our stay was longer than 4 days! The owners were available and helpful. Nick was awesome! Helpful, knowledgeable and just plain friendly and great conversationalist. Hoping to return in 2022.
Not a bad place for lunch when fishing the lake.
