Love hiking this area. Never big crowds and there are some fantastic hiking trails with pretty scenes all around the area. I did the full lake loop the other day - lovely!
Rhododendron Trail nice easy hike to 2 Small but scenic water falls
It's a really nice place to go swimming and have a relaxing picnic. They have stairs to enter the lake and restrooms with a shower so you can wash off after taking a swim. There are nicely maintained benches and picnic tables with grills so it's easy to bring lunch and have a bite to eat. I had a nice time and enjoyed the lake.
Visited Lake Russell again today. Wonderful time as had by all° What a gloriously peaceful place. Quiet, nature all around. Nice facilities, picnic tables grills and a cool lake for swimming. No motorized boats allowed.
It’s a beautiful loop trail although the markings are not great. Easy to get lost in areas so you definitely want to have gps, a good idea of the trail, or go in higher traffic times when the trail is more worn. You have to cross water a few times on the trail, one by walking across a spillway, one by walking across a fall (find well placed rocks), and one across a small creek (across a log). Your feet are likely to get wet at least once!
