Lake Superior State Forest Campground Introduce

Lake Superior State Forest Campground, located in Newberry, Michigan, offers a rustic camping experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. Situated directly on the shores of Lake Superior, this campground provides a scenic and secluded retreat for nature enthusiasts.

According to customer reviews, the campground is known for its beautiful lake views and access to a large, rocky beach. The setting is ideal for those seeking a peaceful and natural environment away from the distractions of modern life.

Amenities at Lake Superior State Forest Campground are basic, catering to those who prefer a more primitive camping experience. Each campsite includes a fire ring and a picnic table. The campground provides vault toilets, with three available for the entire campground. Notably, there are no other amenities, such as showers or hookups.

One significant aspect highlighted by reviewers is the lack of internet service, particularly for AT&T customers. This can be seen as either a positive or negative, depending on individual preferences. For those seeking a complete escape from technology, the campground provides an ideal setting. However, visitors should be prepared for limited connectivity.

Customer reviews also raise concerns about site management. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, which can lead to issues with site availability. There have been reports of sites being occupied by unattended tents with expired registrations, potentially preventing other campers from securing a spot. The lack of visible ranger presence is also noted, raising questions about site management and enforcement of regulations.

Despite these concerns, the campground is generally praised for its well-maintained environment and clean facilities. The spectacular views and direct lake access make it a desirable destination for those seeking a quiet and rustic camping experience.

My friend and I just returned from 3 night stay. We were unable to get a site the first night, returned early next morning to get one as we observed people were packing up. I get that it's a first come basis. My concern is that there was a site that had a tent set up with no other sign of being utilized with a registration expired. The next day we seen the people come and take down the tent only to put up another pup tent. They then left again and put up another registration covering a few more days. Can't figure out what that is all about! It seemed very wrong considering so many people came through and not being able to get a site. If they paid, I guess there isn't much that can be done. The question is ,did they pay for a site they were not using. The only way to know is if a ranger came daily to confirm payment. Did not see one ranger the whole time we were there. When they were past due and only their tent was there, I feel their tent should have been removed to open up that site for someone else to enjoy. Other than that a beautiful campground, well maintained with clean outhouses and spectacular views and access to the lake.

Nice campground right on lake Superior. Nice big rocky beach. Nothing but a fire ring and picnic table at each site. 3 vault toilets for the whole campground. If you want to get away from it all this is the place. No Internet service at least for at&t customers. Good? Bad? You decide. Beautiful area.

Beautiful place to rough camp. Just off the beach of Lake Superior. $20 a night. Comes with a very nice fire pit and picnic table. Clean. Be sure to get ice and firewood before you get to your campsite as the prices for the nearest are insane. Example: $8.00 for a small bag of ice. These sites also have two outdoor potties to share, these are very clean.

The location is absolutely amazing however, there is currently a horse fly infestation in the campground. Stayed long enough to pay and put up a tent then had to tear down and leave. Had my wife, son and two dogs with me. In the hour we stayed both dogs have blood dripping from their nose and ears. My wife's arms and ankles looks like a topographical map or Utah. My son's left eye is currently swollen shut from the flys bitting around his eye. Beautiful scenery and we will be coming back again. Just not anytime in July. P$. Current date is 07/13/24 If you do decide to stay here. The water is nice but the flys are horrible. Best of luck to you

We didn’t stay..the road was only one way thru and if you met someone going the other way you had to pull over in someone’s site for them to get thru. Most of the sites are small and really made for tents only. Very disappointing after the drive out there.☹️

It’s a rustic camp ground with vault toilets. I do not rustic camp but if you do it is right on the lake shore with beautiful amazing views. I was there to rock hunt. Found yooper lights there.

Very rustic. Popular for RockHounds. Pump water available. $20/ nite plus state sticker. Don't try to get there by taking short cuts on the back roads. We got lost pulling our camping trailer. Sandy roads are present. Because of the lake, gps doesn't work. There is no internet. Come in via Grand Marais and you'll be fine. You will hit gravel and dirt roads
