Customer Reviews
This review is for the tent camp sites. Minus the small amount of flooding we experienced due to a substantial amount of rain, Lakedale was the perfect home base for exploring Friday Harbor. The site was spacious and had a lovely view of the onsite lake. The general store was perfect and we were overwhelmed by the amount of lawn games and activities at Lakedale. We'll definitely be back!
It's a nice enough campground, but the water tasted extremely muddy all week, regardless of the spigot we used, including the one at their general store. Bathrooms were clean enough, but the showers have an IR sensor on them and you have to stay within about two inches of it or the water turns off. Functionally, it's like having to hold down a button the entire time you want shower water to run. I can understand why they do this, but it's pretty frustrating in practice. Someone I encountered said you could bypass it with a careful application of toilet paper. We camped in site 205, one of the single-family campsites at the north end of things, and brought a 4-person tent (92"x92") and had trouble finding a good place to put the tent that was relatively flat. If we had our old 6-person tent, part of it would've been on too much of a slope or going over tree roots or something. It's neat that they have various boat and fishing pole rentals on site. We and nearby campers had some issues with raccoons coming to check out our stuff even if we put food away, so be diligent about that.
The customer service here sadly tarnished what would have been a nice stay for us. No employees are on the property outside the hours of 9-5. We literally didn’t see an employee until our last day, when we found them cleaning our yurt an hour BEFORE checkout time, having already dumped the contents of our fridge that we planned to keep. The response was basically a shrug, “it happens” with zero effort make it right. Lakedale bills itself as a resort and charges resort prices, but the impression I got is they are trying to be many things and not doing it well. The amenities and activities are poorly maintained, boats cost extra, and again, no one is around to help. Plus, they went into our room BEFORE checkout and threw away our stuff. I am still in disbelief. Save your money for a resort that actually cares about its guests.
Lakedale’s lodge was a great place to stay. I enjoyed walking around the property in the evenings, and there were a number of activities offered for guests. It was extremely quiet, secluded, and private, which was very enjoyable. Having our own balcony was very nice, and the fireplace in the room was a great touch. The septic system had a strong odor, but keeping the exhaust fan on and toilet closed seemed to keep this at bay. Water took a while to get hot (~10 mins), but then it was fine. Breakfast was just okay, but certainly enough to fuel us for the morning. All in all very enjoyable.
We stayed in one of their two bedroom log cabins. It was clean, nicely appointed and situated steps from the lake shore. Each cabin has a sitting porch overlooking the lake, fire pit and picnic table lakeside. The cabins are probably in the least busy area of the resort, and stayed pretty peaceful even when lots of people arrived for weekend stays. I could see that the fishermen and families with children were having a great time. For me personally the high point was the way the bats arrived to hunt the lake just at dusk every night. Campfire, owls calling in the trees, and a comfy cabin to retire to. Pretty sweet.
