While many established campgrounds dot the state, there are also newer destinations emerging, offering fresh perspectives and unique experiences. One such evolving spot is Lakeside Point in Clayton, Oklahoma, an RV campground that, despite being relatively new, is working to become a cherished locale for those seeking a tranquil lakeside escape in southeastern Oklahoma.
Lakeside Point offers a distinctive setting, characterized by its open spaces and peaceful surroundings. It aims to provide a straightforward and comfortable RV camping experience, particularly appealing to those who appreciate wide-open fields and the calming presence of a nearby lake. While still in its early stages of development and refinement, the campground presents a promising option for locals looking for a quiet base from which to explore the natural beauty of Pushmataha County.
Understanding that every campground has its unique character and growth trajectory, this article will provide a factual and informative overview of Lakeside Point. For Oklahomans, knowing the specifics of such a place is essential for planning a trip that aligns with their expectations and desires for an outdoor adventure. We'll explore its location, what amenities are currently offered, and what makes it a suitable, albeit evolving, destination for those ready to embrace its tranquil, developing charm.
Lakeside Point is situated at 428549 E 1635 Rd, Clayton, OK 74536, USA. This address places it in the scenic Kiamichi Mountains region of southeastern Oklahoma, a renowned area for its rugged beauty, dense forests, and numerous lakes, including the prominent Sardis Lake. Clayton, Oklahoma, is a small town in Pushmataha County, serving as a gateway to various outdoor recreational opportunities.
Accessibility to Lakeside Point is generally straightforward via established state and county roads. While the immediate area might feel remote, offering a true escape from urban centers, the campground is reachable by RVs and other vehicles. For local Oklahomans, particularly those from the eastern and southeastern parts of the state, it offers a convenient drive to a serene environment. Its proximity to Clayton provides a nearby option for basic supplies, though visitors should plan to bring most of what they need.
The campground’s placement by the lake is a significant draw. While direct boat launching facilities might be limited on-site, a public boat ramp for Sardis Lake is typically only a few miles away, allowing easy access for fishing, boating, and other water activities. The region itself is characterized by rolling hills and picturesque natural landscapes, ensuring a scenic drive to and from the campground. Visitors should be aware that some of the more rural roads in this part of Oklahoma might require careful navigation, especially for larger rigs.
Lakeside Point, as a developing RV campground, focuses on providing essential services for a comfortable stay, particularly for RV travelers. Based on available information and typical offerings for such a location, here's what visitors can generally expect:
- RV Sites with Full Hookups: The campground offers RV spots that include full hookups, meaning electrical, water, and sewer connections. This is a crucial amenity for RVers, allowing for extended stays without the need to frequently move for waste disposal or water refills. Reviewers have noted sites come with water and electricity, though there have been instances of electrical issues with high-power appliances.
- Spacious, Open Sites: The RV spots are described as "clearly marked and laid out on a wide, treeless field." This provides ample open space around each rig, preventing a cramped feeling during quieter periods.
- Lake Access: While limited to "just one small open area," access to the lake is available for guests. This allows for activities like fishing from the shore or simply enjoying the lakeside views.
- On-Site Restrooms/Showers (Developing): Based on customer feedback, there may be restroom facilities available. However, as the campground is still growing, the level of polish and consistency in these facilities might be in development.
- Potential for Long-Term Stays: With full hookups and an open layout, Lakeside Point could accommodate longer-term stays for those looking for an extended escape.
- Friendly On-Site Management: Reviewers mention friendly owners who are actively involved and "just starting out with this place," suggesting a responsive and accommodating approach to guest needs as they grow.
Lakeside Point offers several distinctive features that cater to specific preferences, particularly for those who appreciate a quiet, open, and developing lakeside environment.
- Peaceful and Open Surroundings: A significant highlight is the "open space and peaceful surroundings." For campers seeking a truly quiet getaway, especially during off-peak times, the campground's serene atmosphere is a major draw. The "wide, treeless field" layout contributes to this expansive and uncluttered feel.
- Lake Access: Despite being limited to one area, direct access to the lake is a definite advantage for water enthusiasts. This allows for fishing, dipping your toes in the water, or enjoying the views without having to drive off-site. Sardis Lake itself is known for its excellent fishing, attracting anglers from across Oklahoma.
- Opportunity to Witness Growth: As a newer establishment, guests have the unique opportunity to experience a campground in its early stages of development. For those who enjoy supporting local businesses and seeing improvements firsthand, this can be an appealing aspect. The owners are described as "friendly people" who are "just starting out," indicating a commitment to growing and improving the site based on feedback.
- Spacious RV Spots: The sites are described as "clearly marked and laid out" and in an "open" field, which implies good space between RVs. While this might mean less natural shade, it ensures that rigs are not "stacked on top of each other" during less busy periods, providing a sense of personal space.
- Gateway to Southeastern Oklahoma's Natural Beauty: Located in the Kiamichi Mountains region, Lakeside Point serves as a convenient base for exploring a wider area known for its hiking, hunting, and additional lake activities at nearby Clayton Lake State Park or the Ouachita National Forest.

Customer Reviews
We stayed at this RV campground by the lake and appreciated the open space and peaceful surroundings—especially since we were the only guests during our visit. The RV spots are clearly marked and laid out on a wide, treeless field, which keeps things neat but also means no shade and very little character. Access to the lake is available but limited to just one small open area. It worked fine for us since we had it all to ourselves, but if the campground gets busy, sharing that one access point could be frustrating. Same goes for the RV spots—they’re very close together, so it could feel cramped during high season. One of our main reasons for coming was fishing, but unfortunately, the lake was high at the time and there wasn’t much action. Not necessarily the campground’s fault, just something to keep in mind depending on the season. A bigger issue was the electrical hookup. The breaker kept tripping when we tried to run our RV’s electric heater, so we had to switch to gas. The owners stopped by to introduce themselves—friendly people, and you can tell they’re just starting out with this place. That said, there was a bit of confusion around the rules. We were shown where we could and couldn’t go, but on the last day we were asked to leave an area that had previously been marked as okay. Nothing serious, but it points to the need for clearer communication and perhaps a bit more polish on the service side. All in all, a decent spot with potential. Wishing them the best as they keep growing and improving.
Had an emergency on the road and our toddler had to use the restroom (The gate to the grounds were open and sign said said camping required reservations - nothing about restrooms) Park management came over and told us to have our toddler pee on the side of the road instead. Let us leave fine, but not a nice man. If you don't want people inside your campground then close the gate and have someone check paying guests in.
Peaceful, clean and well kept. The campground showers are excellent! I stayed in the cabin, and it was absolutely perfect! Great views and easy access!
This is a very beautiful place to be! It's apparently a secret gem because there is no one here and the Corps parks are full. They offer monthly rates, full hook ups, easy pull through sites, and a short walk to the water. This place beats the Corps parks hands down.
Up and coming campground with stunning views of the lake. Easy walk to the lake for swimming. Our kids loved it, we plan to pack the kayaks for the next visit. Full hookups and a shower house in the making. Trash on site, picnic tables, & all have fire rings. Pack your shade tent and be prepared for a quiet relaxing camping trip. Lots of room for the littles to roam or ride bikes. Also a great place to host events. Owner has white tents, chairs, and many extras available.
