How weird it says no groups but yet this person has 4 vehicles, 3 side by sides, 14+ ppl. Came in at 11pm didn't stop making noise and partied till 3am with bright lights beaming from their cars/side by side. Quiet time for camp is 10om to 630am curious why the ranger came up to us first day and these guys get a pass? I don't own this land, but neither do they. Respect can go along way to not have your black tank valve pulled because you couldn't be respectful of others. Otherwise the power lines will buzz like the suburbs of the city, the close road with no barrier sounds like your right off a interstate. The uncleaned burn piles from early 2000s. The dead trees lingering over the campground makes ya feel unsafe and glad to have insurance. With all said and done and I see the ranger not doing anything but chatting with ppl 😕 I'd be a better ranger than the last yrs worth of volunteers. Cheap and free employees means places turns to poooo. Definitely not dog friendly due to the ranger told me they had to be on a 5ft or shorter lease but won't move the group to a group spot. Yes restrooms dirty but what do you expect from volunteering. No playground and the only nice thing was a nice picnic table near by each camp. But other than that don't waste and just go to the Tonto national Park
This place is amazing! Don’t listen to the person who said something about the power lines. If you can drive up the road as we did, you’re miles away from the lines. Anyway, beautiful place, good amount of camp-spots on the left and right of the road. We camped like right up along the rim!! So awesome. No issues at all. There is a bathroom at the start of the road, but we are in the wood. We camped few miles out from the bathrooms. Would come back 100%. Came here on the fly, since RIM road was closed up the road.
I gave it only 4 stars as it is highly used, super busy. Weekends were crowded. It has been very dry so no fires were allowed. All that dryness made it extremely dusty. Many, many ATV’s. Everyone drove very fast on road which made more dust. It's the only place I have ever seen that much wildlife in just one stay. Coyotes noisy at night. Roads were in great shape for any type or size of vehicle or trailers.
Probably would be more stars if the management would step in and enforce rules. The volunteer was nice but deserved to be paid or have direct numbers to someone who can enforce. Over the weekend of September 20-22 2024 a very rude group moved in at 11pm and made noise till 3am. On our first day September 18th a range came by passed out rules, in the rules and by huge sign says no group camping in this one area. A group meaning over 10 as states in rules there were over 14 ppl I counted. I haven't seen the ranger to tell him. They have 2 travel trailers, 4 vehicles, 4 side by sides. It's very obvious they are a group camping. Not sure what rules are for. I understand I don't own the forest but neither do they. We should respect each other's spaces. Otherwise, the power lines and close traffic you can hear makes this place like an suburb of a city. Trees are dangerously dead and near camp sites. Huge burn pile thats been here since the early 2000s at my site. The only positive thing so far are the picnic tables. Definitely not dog friendly. No play ground. Restroom
We stop here for a night on our way north and it's perfect for that but I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time here. There's always plenty of mud no matter when we get there. If you are looking for a place to stay in dispersed camping there's much better places to go.
The whole Mogollon Rim area is amazing! this free campsite beautifully kept! Well worth the drive❤
