A pleasant surprise in Northern California. I’m not sure I would make a special trip up here to see it, but if you are visiting the Redwood Coast, it’s very much worth the drive inland to see this park. The landscape is very interesting, with a mix of sub alpine forest, geothermal features, remnants of past forest fires and classic volcano like peaks. You can see quite a bit from your car, but the hikes in this park are fantastic. The visitors center is small but quite interesting. Note that it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Beautiful place, that you can explore just by stopping by the view points. There are plenty of trails to enjoy with different difficulty levels. Beautiful lakes with picnic tables, and areas with thermal activity. Plenty of volcanic picks, rivers, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

This is a very nice national park but not one of my favorites so far. When we visited in mid-June most of the road was still covered in snow, but the parts we did see were extremely pretty! I don't think you need to spend more than a day or two here to see everything and do a few hikes.
