Customer Reviews
We had a great visit. Right across the street from a hotel that has several hot spring pools. The KOA had just got dumped on by snow and all the spots were cleaned out. Staff was awesome and friendly. The bathrooms were kept top notch. I highly recommend this KOA and visiting Lava Hot Springs...it's a great little town....very cute.
Beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff, great water pressure, and immaculate sites next to the babbling creek. I had a wonderful time. I wish that the little town had more to do so I could stay longer. Easily a top 3 KOA in the US, up there with Moab for idyllic scenery. Did have to use Verizon to stream.
Location good; walking distance to the town amenities. So why the low rating? More expensive than a motel room for essentially a small parking space with water and power ($117 plus tax in mid Sept). Staff incredibly rude on arrival - we did not have a booking and enquired about a space which was met with what appeared to be hostility and sarcasm. Few facilities on site - no pool etc. Trash bins left open - overflowing and stinky. Shower block in need of an update - dirty toilets and showers themselves with filthy grouting, poor water pressure and nowhere to put toiletries without them getting sprayed by water - I have had better and more comfortable showers in $18 per night campgrounds than here. I felt almost as grubby getting out of the shower - the bathroom needs a lot of bleach and some elbow grease, and a couple of friendly smiles and welcome from the staff would not have gone amiss either. Kind of put me off KOA sites.
I gave a 3 star for location. It's a 5 start if you count the location next to Lava Hot Springs, but the reason for my low rating is the annoying trains that drive by all night long and honk all night long. It's very difficult to get any sleep. Otherwise, the campground was clean and conveniently located across the street from Lava Hot Springs, which made the train noise bearable.
Very cool location next to the rumbling River. Has a barbecue on the back porch and a natural gas fire pit as well. The rooms were clean. If you visit lava Springs you must check out the Mercantile store on Main Street they have really cool handmade items. Found a good little coffee shop and pretty much everything is walking distance. The pools were busy however we visited on New Year's Eve and there were fewer people at the pools in the a.m. will definitely do it again.
Great place to stay and improving! They're making lots of improvements making this a newer KOA. No pool but a new pizza restaurant is being built on site. Some sites are right on the river. The bathrooms are nice and newer but the showers are designed poorly. They're huge, but square with no ante room to keep your towel and clothes dry and no private dry space to put your clothes on. Largest shower award though. The location is super convenient - downtown. Got spring pools are across the street and three blocks away. Lots of food and drinks choices within short walking distance. Friendly staff. Fire pits are nice but poorly designed. They need to be dug up, hole enlarged, rocks on bottom, pit installed and rocks put in surrounding pit. This will allow airflow from the bottom facilitating a clean burn. The pits are feet from the campers so a clean burn is important. $6 per pet. Next to no campers first of March.
The campgrounds were amazingly clean. We stayed in a deluxe cabin and it was so cute. The futon pulled out to a full sized bed. Perfect space for a mom and her two tall teens!
They cut down all the big trees in the campground! There goes all the shade and wildlife. 😥 The cabins are clean but at almost $500 for 2 nights, it's way overpriced, especially since you have to bring your own bedding and towels. This used to be our favorite place to stay in Lava, now it's turning into a giant slab of concrete. All good things come to an end.
I couldn't get past them nickel and dimeing me for kids and dogs (pay per night for dogs). If I pay for dogs, I expect not to arrive at my site with two droppings from previous dogs. Firewood is very expensive. Other than that, their updates they are making are great and a perfect location.
