Excellent camping site with lots of shade (site 40)! Recycling available and garbage collection at every loop. Gnats were terrible everywhere because of the rain. Be sure to see the lower ledges area, as it was under water at the rime of our stay. The hosts were helpful and friendly!

Well kept campground 🏕. Not far from town for anything one may have forgotten at home. Nice hiking trails 🥾 as well as picnic areas near the ledges park attraction. Fun as a natural water 💧 attraction to cool off, and explore the creek aquatic life.

The hike-in campgrounds were a further walk from the parkinglot than expected; which added a nice level of privacy. The prepared families brought waggons to move their stuff from the car. Brought our own firewood, so I can't comment on available supplies. Toilets and showers were kept clean, with plenty of hot water. CAUTION: Access to the bathroom roof is easy and I saw multiple boys climbing up to peer in on the female showers. I scared them off, but this may be an ongoing issue.

We spent 6 nights at site 73. We were there at the end of September to October 3rd. Full spectrum of temperatures. Got a couple of days but cool enough, all but one evening, for a camp fire. The sites are very large and private. They are gravel sites. We were next to the shower house but again, the sites are so large that we were never disturbed by the coming and going if the other campers. You will need to fill up with water as you come in, they don’t have hydrants in between sites like some campgrounds do. Now they do have some full hookup sites available, so you can pull up the site map and see where those are. For our site, no. Take an hose or two with you. We were close to highway, but couldn’t see it or hear vehicles. I believe we were 5 sites in. The hiking opportunities are great and you’re within 7-10 minutes of Boone, Walmart, McDonald’s, gas, etc. The Iowa Arboretum is within a few miles. Ames was only a 25 minute drive and we even drove to the High Trestle Bridge and the Kate Shelley Bridge. So much to do. Camp host was nice, DNR drives through pretty regularly. Just a great location and be sure to see what DNR activities might be schedule while you’re there. This trip included hikes named Fungus Among us, they had a hike and talk about the leaves changing, one evening a couple of horses were brought in. Very kid friendly.

We love this campground! We attended a talk and hike about mushrooms with the park naturalist Luke. It was an excellent event. The campground has nice size sites. Clean bathrooms. We have a 35 ft 5th wheel and most of the sites we fit no problem. Hiking and driving your car over the fords and splashing those waiting by the edges of the Ford just to get wet is alway fun for everyone. The Prarie trail is showing off with lovely blooms this time of year.
