The big lake is just big enough. We kayaked multiple times. Caught plenty of panfish and pike. Largies too. The sites are far enough apart to feel private but you can still see the people next to you. Lots of trees between campsites (we use hammock tents). Most sites have access to water and there’s a boat launch if needed. The dock is pretty huge too. Stargazing at night is awesome, of course. I’ve been back 6 times and going again this weekend…it has become a fave of ours.

Such a beautiful place, perfect for camping. It operates via honor box - you just register and leave money in a special box. Maybe I was lucky, but it was super quiet when we stopped there - maybe 2 or 3 other cars. The stars are so bright at night! I only wish we planned our trip better and bound stay there longer.

Just stayed at Leverentz for the first time. Pros: beautiful, semi-secluded sites with a good amount of tree cover but you still get sunlight and it’s not too buggy; easy access to the lake; not too busy (mid-September); sites were decently maintained; dumpster and water pump available. Cons: no dock or beach; pit toilets are less than ideal since they aren’t maintained as regularly, but not unusable; some road noise. We planned to stay 3 nights but ended up leaving after the first night due to hearing rapid gunfire for about 30 min around midnight. Some of the shots sounded VERY close and we did end up calling the police. They did a couple laps through the campground and didn’t find anything and by then the shots had stopped so there was really nothing more to do. We were camping with small children and just didn’t feel safe after that. Overall, we had somewhat of a negative experience but I don’t blame the campground itself for that. Minus the potential threat of danger, we really liked the site!

I brought my 9-year-old son here for his first camping trip. It was perfect for that. Good sized sites for tent camping. They all have a picnic table and fire pit. Dock was cool for fishing and stargazing at night.
