What a great hidden gem! They have a swing, disc golf, gutterball/carpetball, play sand box, frisbees, huge tire put into ground for kids to play on, sweet hosts dogs that will keep you company, trails into nature, very secluded not like the state campground where there is an inch between you and a stranger. Bathroom very spacious. Fridge and microwave and AC work great in cabin, host was kind, they sell firewood on site, you can really hear the sounds of nature had to drive down dirt roads and past farms to get out here. No mosquitos and no raccoons (fort Custer had both of those super annoying), oh and great prices too! This is the gem we've been looking for and never found until now, and the nuvu has really good hot food (even Cajun) it's not far. It's rating on hip camp is high, for the obvious reasons. I also really like their hexagon picnic table it's so much better than the rectangles, our family loves board games and it just works much better for that purpose. Shower gets hot and good pressure and no toilet issues. So glad we found this, wish we known about this before the state campgrounds we've done with cons this place doesn't have. This is a place to make memories with your loved ones!! Check it out
There's only 6 sites to choose from. A small cabin, a smaller cabin, 2 open campsites and 2 wooded campsites. We had one of the wooded campsites. It was the only one with electricity and water. This place is great if you like a lot of privacy. The two dogs that live there (Luke and Kiwi) are so sweet and will just hang out with you. This is perfect if you just want to get away from it all. The restroom looks like it is under construction.
Our group rented the entire campground for a 3 day weekend. The campground itself is very spacious and has plenty of parking; there is a large lot in the back for cars & trailers, and plenty of parking near the sites as well. There are two cabins, both with a firepit nearby, and many scattered spots to put a tent or camper (two tent sites have fire pits). The kids play area and electric vehicle chargers are also a huge plus. The event outbuilding was relatively spacious and had 2 built in Bluetooth speakers as well as good lighting. The chairs & tables are left outside and are very rusty / old, but there are chair covers in storage (ask for access). It worked perfect for what we needed. The bathrooms could use work, the men's shower has no door at all and the woman's shower door is a piece of plywood. As a group that camps often, we were surprised at its condition; extending the walls, fixing the doors, and adding shower rugs would help alot. The toilets were also constantly clogged (seems to be a plumbing issue). One issue we had was that the campground does not get sprayed or treated in any way for mosquitos. As a group that camps often, this is the worst most of us had ever been swarmed by mosquitos. At least $200+ in mosquito repellent products had to be purchased to somewhat control the issue. The biggest issue we had with the campground, aside from the mosquitos, was the lack of privacy. Each morning the host would walk through the campground and give instructions/ updates to us. One of these instructions was to move vehicles so his employees could mow (he had not prepared the site before our arrival, including mowing). They never did mow, but we did have to move his equipment for him as it was in the event outbuilding. There were also other guests in the campground. When we first arrived, a few hours after check-in, these guests (the host said they are employees) were still camping in one of the sites near the bathrooms. They later moved farther away from the campground (and closer to the hosts house) but continued to use the bathrooms and to drive through the campground. At least 4 different vehicles drove through the campground at different times, to cross through to these guests site. When the listing is for an entire campground - that should include exclusive use of its amenities. Overall the host is very polite and accommodating, and for the price it's not a bad deal. With some improvements, maintenance (mosquito too), and an effort to give guests their space, the place could go from a 3-star to a 5-star.
Had a fantastic experience here, such a hidden gem in west Michigan. Steve and his dog, Luke, and goat, Ari, were great hosts and the grounds are beautiful and big. Fires are allowed, electric outlets are scattered throughout, and there are full bathrooms. My friends and I had an amazing night of cornhole, volleyball, cards, and camp fires here. We definitely plan on returning, perhaps even this summer! Would definitely recommend.
