Beautiful area. Worth the drive up. Spring time finds the hillsides covered in wildflowers. Old asphalt road transitions to gravel about a mile from the top if coming from Elensburg. Vault toilet near the top/lions rock. Camping just about anywhere. Pack it in,Pack it out!
Stopped overnight on motorcycle trip on the Washington backcountry discovery route. Nice pit toilets, no TP, campsite was nice but deeply rutted. Mid August spring was not flowing enough to be getting amy drinking water. Did use some for rinsing dishes.
I’m here now. For being as far out in the wilderness as it is, I still seem to have intermittent cell service. The camping is un-maintained but the toilet is still serviced and kept very clean. The road is rough in places and a higher clearance vehicle is advisable but I’ve seen regular passenger vehicles here as well. Bring water. It is a bit windy now but not unbearable. There are lots of people here but camping is spread out. I agree with a previous review, this must have been some sort of campground in years gone by but the surrounding forest appears to have entirely succumbed to a fire about ten years ago so that may have prompted its abandonment. There are a lot of ATV’s so this may be the main attraction now.
Awesome. Absolutely gorgeous with free primitive camping. There is a bathroom nearby that is serviced and has a real toilet (appears to be left over from a extinct campground. The views are worth it if you can stand the drive but bring a jacket. It's windy up there.
Pretty good spot for camping. No real facilities but is to be expected with free sites. Decent cell service up there too which was surprising.
