Customer Reviews
Lorri (aka Turtle) is great and makes this place special. Been going here for years because of her. Sad to hear The refuge is closing it down. Whichever campground in the area is lucky enough to hire her, aside from having a huge asset of an employee will be busy because there are a good number of people that will go there because of her.
Service was friendly and helpful. But coming from the TransAmerica tour, the office didn't know which spots had shade during a sunset or sundown. Place seems outdated and okay looking. Primative camping spot had uncut grass and difficult to tent. Bathroom and shower was okay. Not great. Bring your shower slippers. Limited space to put your things in the showers. No soap at sink. No WiFi. Front office has a sign that says no fishing on the dock and yet I watching two kids and an adult fishing on the dock. Lol. $25/night primative
Lots of pros and cons to this place. Overall, I'd probably come back. It's not easy to book, as you have to call, and catch em when they are there. The fire pits are in poor condition, ours was filled with stuff upon arrival and the grate was badly melted and warped. the bathrooms are clean but smell of cigarettes , the showers are beyond disgusting, don't drain, and have mold. Definitely need up graded and cleaned. There was however endless hot water , which was amazing after hiking for 10 miles , and needing a good scrub. However, standing in someone else's ankle deep shower water is beyond gross, and the showers were so slow to drain, that the whole floor was wet. There are no hooks inside the stall to hang your items , and since the floor was flooded it was really hard to dry off and get dressed. Our site was so short for or 32" we asked to move upon check in, and were told everyone just makes it work. I thought maybe they were sold out for the weekend , but they weren't. The website is outdated, and isn't great but has good info on it , like bring electric extension cords, etc. Charging 5$ extra a day for running your A/c until seems stupid, never saw " security" which is mentioned on the website, but felt like it was a pretty low key safe campground. lots of mature trees , and wonderful shade. However, we noticed alot of dead limbs hanging, Very quiet , parking for tow vehicles was wonderful, our site could have used some gravel, and I didn't love the giant cracks, broken concrete pad as it's just a place to trip and break your ankle but we've seen worse. Went into office 2x and got my questioned answered, but kinda felt like I was bothering the employees. No one was overly friendly.
Little Grassy lake is perfect for kayaking. We were able to tie up along a point and take a dip. The campground itself was fine although we were placed in a site next to the dump station. A fence around that area would be a bonus. The bathrooms were gross. The woman who checked us in was super. They have ♻️ which is great as not all campgrounds do.
We stayed at Little Grassy early October 2022. Two 36ft motorhomes side by side. We loved this place and will certainly go back. If you’re looking for concrete slabs and manicured lawns don’t go here. But if you like staying under beautiful old trees right by the lake with plenty of space – this is your place. The camp host, Miss Turtle is a special lady and goes out of her way to accommodate your needs. You can rent a boat at the marina and the store has most of the essentials. It’s rustic but nice and the surrounding area has lots of neat places to visit.
