Little Stoney Creek Campground Introduce

Little Stoney Creek Campground, located in Hampton, TN 37658, provides a free, first-come-first-serve camping experience. As a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it offers basic camping amenities and access to a lake for swimming and recreation.

Customer reviews highlight the campground's appeal for its free access and beautiful scenery. The lake access is a significant draw, particularly for those looking to cool off during hot weather and enjoy swimming with pets. The campground's open policy allows for flexible arrival and departure times, making it convenient for short overnight trips.

However, several reviews mention a recurring issue with trash accumulation. While some visitors report that the trash situation was not problematic during their stay, others emphasize the need for campers to be responsible and clean up after themselves. There is a strong appeal for campers to pack out their own trash, and even consider bringing an extra bag to help clean the area.

Another common concern is the campground's proximity to the highway, which results in significant traffic noise throughout the night. This can be disruptive for light sleepers seeking a quiet, natural environment. Additionally, there are reports of a broken boardwalk leading to the creek, indicating potential maintenance issues.

Despite these drawbacks, the campground is often described as having a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Campers report encountering nice families and enjoying a less crowded environment, even during holiday periods. The availability of multiple tent spots allows for flexibility in choosing a suitable campsite upon arrival.

In summary, Little Stoney Creek Campground offers a free, accessible camping option with beautiful scenery and lake access. However, potential visitors should be aware of the potential for trash accumulation and highway noise. Responsible camping practices and a tolerance for some noise are recommended.

Went for overnight camping and some swimming with my pup. The trash wasn't an issue as I read it has been. Didn't run into any crazy animals. It did storm a couple times but it didn't ruin the experience. The access to the lake is great! I was glad to swim with my pup in such a hot day. I think my main complaint is that it's so close to the highway you get car noise all night. I'm a light sleeper, the sound of nature would have been much better. Also there was a boardwalk to the creek but it was totally broke. Other than that, it's free, first come first serve. The other campers were really nice families and for a holiday it wasn't packed which is always a bonus. When I arrived I had plenty of tent spots to choose from.

Rounding up here. 4.5 I'd say. Beautiful scenery, FREE (like what's better than free), and no hassle. We rolled in at midnight, set up our kit. Slept, and left by 9. Didn't have to talk to another soul, just got to enjoy nature. The only issue. There is SO much trash like tons. Please pick up your trash, like imagine going somewhere Beautiful, enjoying yourself, then littering. If you read this and wanna be altruistic bring an extra trash bag.

This has been my go to spot for camping the past two years. The area is first come first pick of campsites but it is free to stay. All sites have a fire pit. You do have to walk into the camping area - there is no vehicle access to the sites.

For many years, people wondered why you could drink and raise hell here, but not at any other park on Watauga. It wasn't until just a few years ago that I learned that Mr. Greene that ran the resort at Shook Branch, owned it and never charged anyone to camp there or even told anyone as far as I know. Mr. Greene donated the land to the state upon his death. RIP my friend and thank you.
