It is particularly known for its direct access to the scenic Little Turkey River, which is a major draw for water-based recreational activities.

Operating seasonally, typically from mid-April through mid-October, Little Turkey River Campground LLC positions itself as a well-cared-for and friendly destination for both RV and tent campers. Its emphasis on a family-friendly atmosphere and affordable rates makes it an accessible option for various types of outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore the natural beauty of Northeast Iowa, particularly the unique geological region known as the Driftless Area.

Environment:

The environment of Little Turkey River Campground LLC is characterized by its setting on the banks of the Little Turkey River. This location provides a serene backdrop with the soothing sounds of flowing water, making it ideal for relaxation. The campground features flat terrain with open spaces and scattered trees, offering a mix of sun and shade for different campsites. While in a small town, the campground itself provides a sense of being close to nature.

Northeast Iowa, where Waucoma is located, is part of the "Driftless Area," a region largely untouched by glaciers, resulting in unique geological features like steep bluffs, forested hills, and deeply carved river valleys. While the immediate campground is relatively flat, the broader surrounding area offers picturesque landscapes distinct from the more uniform plains of much of Iowa. The temperatures in this region can range from average lows of 20°F in winter to average highs of 85°F in summer, providing a pleasant climate for camping during its operational season.

The campground’s proximity to the river means campers have direct access to a natural waterway for various activities, enhancing the outdoor experience. The general atmosphere is often described as quiet and peaceful, making it a good choice for those looking to escape urban noise and connect with nature.

Services and Features:

Little Turkey River Campground LLC offers a range of services and features that align with the "Campgrounds & RV Parks" category, providing essential amenities for a comfortable stay:

  • Campsite Variety: The campground offers a total of 20 RV sites, with 10 of these providing full hookups (water, sewer, electrical). The remaining 10 RV sites likely offer electrical hookups (30-amp or 50-amp) and water, with a dump station available for waste. Additionally, tent camping is accommodated, providing options for those who prefer a more traditional ground-level experience.
  • Hookups: RV sites come equipped with electrical hookups (30-amp and/or 50-amp), water connections, and sewer connections for full hookup sites. This makes it convenient for RVers of various sizes, including those with larger rigs.
  • Restroom Facilities: A modern shower house is available on-site. Reviews often highlight the cleanliness of these facilities, which is a crucial aspect of camper comfort.
  • Pet-Friendly: The campground explicitly allows pets, making it a suitable choice for campers who wish to bring their furry companions. Specific rules regarding leashes and waste cleanup would typically apply.
  • Recreation and Water Access:
    • River Activities: A major feature is direct access to the Little Turkey River, enabling popular activities such as tubing and canoeing. This is often highlighted as a key recreational offering.
    • Fishing: The river also provides opportunities for fishing, appealing to anglers.
    • Nearby Recreation: While the campground itself focuses on river access and basic amenities, it is conveniently located near various land-based activities. These include golf courses (e.g., Jackson Heights Golf Course is just over 4 miles away) and other local parks and nature preserves for hiking and exploration (e.g., Chipera Prairie).
  • Convenience: Its location in the small town of Waucoma means it’s close enough to town for basic supplies, while still maintaining a tranquil feel.
  • Reservation System: Reservations are accepted, allowing campers to plan their stays in advance, particularly during peak season.

In terms of "goods for sale," the primary offering is the rental of campsites (RV sites, tent sites). While not explicitly stated, it is common for such campgrounds to offer basic camping necessities like firewood, ice, and perhaps some fishing bait or small supplies at a small office or kiosk. However, the focus is on the site rentals and amenities rather than a comprehensive retail operation.

This is a quaint little Campgrounds. The owners go upabove and beyond as hostesses. I had the good fortune to be able to spend time with my youngest Granddaughters at this campgrounds. The turkey river is right there, so enjoyable to see. They have full hookups so that was a big plus. Can't wait to go back. Thank you to the campground owners for making our short time there so enjoyable. Tell Micky Hi for us. 😃

It's a great little campground. It is smaller, so a large rv would take up most of a spot. Parking is a little scarce but we make it work. There is well maintained facilities, playground equipment, and a shelter thing. The owners are pretty chill, they handle most of the campground grunt work. The regulars are also pretty chill, they keep to themselves but they are friendly when you do talk to them. They allow dogs, as long as they're leashed, and you can't tie them to trees. At the end of the grounds, there's a little slope that leads down to the turkey river. It's a beautiful little nook.

I spent 3 days here and had a great little vacation.. So peaceful! The others that were camping there were so respectful of all of the others that were there. It was very peaceful to sit and listen to the river, take a walk with the dog, go fishing..you name it! I only live 4 blocks away and this was the first time I ever went there to camp. If I Would have known how nice this campground is I Would have gone Many Times before! The owners, Ray and Kathy Hack each have such a great personality and sense of humor!! They work hard to keep things looking great and working good. I look forward to spending more time here inn the near future!

To long, didn't read: This place is great, the owners do absolutely everything to make you comfortable its affordable and beautiful, free showers/laundry. If you have the chance, go here. You will not be disappointed. This place is beautiful! GREAT customer service, me and my girlfriend had planned a trip to see waterfalls around Iowa but neglected to call ahead to reserve a spot until the day we left, we couldn't find an available spot in any of the areas we had planned to go, desperate we called everywhere we could and we ended up happier at the Little Turkey River campground than anywhere else we could have ended up. Its a short drive to all the beautiful waterfalls we planned to see but we didn't need to, a few steps away from our spot theres a beautiful section of the local river and that was enough for us. The owners waited up until 10pm dispite us saying we would be there 5 hours earlier. There were multiple times the owner would come check on us make sure we got set up okay asked if we needed anything, we visited during a pretty bad storm and she was in contact with us about safety issues and told us if we wanted to leave she understood. As far as amenities, above and beyond what I expected. There's a lot of work being done to the site I'm sad we didn't get to see it finished but there's a general community area complete with Pavillion and a well kept playground for children, 2 private bathrooms, (not just a toilet, just like your bathroom at home) for those without campers and a laundry room. Everything was clean and smelled as such, I cannot wait to go back and we definitely will. Thank you so much for having us we had an amazing time!

The whole campground hangs out every night around a fire and shares stories. They have a park on site and one right down the road. The bathrooms are very clean and new. The river is right there with a pretty walkway down to it. Also the firewood stash is free will donation. Definitely small town welcome feel. Loved staying there and want to go back again.
