  • "In 65 years, I've never visited the UP. Well, now I have. I wanted a log cabin, and I found one. It was rustic, the decor was fifties grandpa's cottage, but everything worked and we were twenty steps from the lake. It's a place that I'll visit again."
  • "Super friendly and accommodating staff. Beautiful location. Traveling alone for work I got their smallest and cheapest cabins described as a tent with walls. With a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, and queen size bed. Will definitely stay here again next season."

Beautiful place to camp with great campsites. We camped in the wooded area on a pull-through site, great location. The people were so friendly, we will go back!

We stayed in a cabin. Marge and the staff were very friendly and helpful! The campground was very nice. Beautiful view of Big Manistee Lake and the beach was fun. The cabin was kind of rustic, sheets and blankets were provided, along with dishes and cookware, but you always have to bring a lot more than that. We've been to the U.P. several times and knew what to bring to make our stay comfortable. Had a really great time with our family and appreciated our stay there!

The staff is really friendly! We stayed Labor Day weekend in cabin Elm, the cabin was small but very nice for the price. It was a hot weekend and no AC was not a problem, there was fan provided and lots of windows. My family enjoyed the beach and the playground. Most people are gone sightseeing during the day and the park is super quite. The mattresses in the cabin could’ve been better, but like I said the price was fair. The last day I was there the staff went above and beyond as I had a nail in my tire. They called down to tire shop in Curtis and got me right in. We’ll be coming back.

My family recently booked campsites at this campground, as we have enjoyed visiting for many years. Unfortunately, the forecast is now calling for rain throughout the entire weekend of our trip. Since we are tent camping, we decided it would be best not to proceed with our plans in those conditions. We completely understand that campgrounds need cancellation policies, but we were disappointed to learn that the 50% deposit we paid—despite booking less than 30 days in advance—is entirely non-refundable. While a flat-rate or smaller non-refundable portion would be more reasonable, losing the full amount feels excessive. In the end, it feels like we simply donated the money. This experience has left us reconsidering future visits, which is unfortunate given our long history with this campground.

My friends and I stayed in “Beech” over the weekend, and while it’s a nice property on the water, we had a major mice incident that leads me to leave this review. On the first night, we saw two mice and assumed it was a fluke, so we tried to ignore it. (We understand that older cabins like this can be very rustic.) However, after returning from our hike on the second day, we saw 5–6 mice, including one crawling right above our bed. We even saw one exit through a hole near the fireplace. In addition to the mice, our room had a strong smell of urine, which we now suspect may have been related to the mice. At that point, my friends and I decided to leave the cabin around 1am and had to pay for a last-minute hotel in Mackinaw City. While we were compensated for half of our stay, the owner declined my request for a full refund, stating that the mice “came in from the storm” and that “if we would’ve come to the office, they could’ve solved it.” However, when we left for our hike on Saturday at 2 p.m., the office wasn’t open, and at that point, we hadn’t seen the majority of the mice yet. Additionally, the number of mice we saw strongly suggests there was a nest inside the cabin, not just a few that came in from the storm. While I do think this is a nice property overall, I would recommend confirming that this issue has been fully resolved before booking.
