Lower Canjilon Lakes Campground Introduce

Welcome to Lower Canjilon Lakes Campground, located in Canjilon, NM 87515. As a part of the 'Campgrounds & RV Parks' category, this campground offers scenic high-altitude camping with excellent fishing opportunities.

Lower Canjilon Lakes Campground is praised for its beautiful setting, offering stunning views of the Jemez caldera and Pedernal to the south, and the Sangre de Cristos to the east. The campground is a popular destination for families looking to enjoy fishing and outdoor activities.

The campground features three lakes, providing ample opportunities for fishing. The area is also known for its natural beauty, with new trees and frequent sightings of cows. The campground offers a rustic camping experience, ideal for those seeking a connection with nature.

However, the cleanliness of the vault toilets is a point of concern. The vault toilet at the lake parking area is reported to be particularly filthy, while the single toilet available for the entire campground is described as slightly better. Despite this, the affordable $5 camping fee is considered a reasonable trade-off for the scenic location and activities.

The campground is a hit with children, who enjoy fishing and exploring the natural surroundings. The beautiful views and family-friendly atmosphere make it a worthwhile destination for those willing to overlook the bathroom conditions.

Lower Canjilon Lakes Campground offers beautiful high-altitude views, excellent fishing in three lakes, and a family-friendly environment. Be aware of potentially unclean vault toilets.

For inquiries, contact the Carson National Forest ranger station. Visitors should be prepared for rustic camping conditions and plan accordingly.

Customers highlight the beautiful views, excellent fishing, and family-friendly environment, but also note the unclean vault toilets.

Beautiful high setting with views of the Jemez caldera and Pedernal to the south and the Sangre de Cristos to the east. Lots of families enjoying the fishing and campground. The vault toilet at the lake parking was filthy, and the single one for the whole campground was better. But for $5...?

I'd call this campground sorta' primitive. I had a great stay. 3 Nights. Only 4 other parties camping. Wonderful scenery all around.

Lots of people. Packed campgrounds with no shade. All of the birch trees here have been chopped down for firewood. There are downed trees everywhere and the sound of chainsaws is constant. But the lake has fish. The bathrooms are not accessible during the pandemic. Nor are the bear-safe trashcans. People were camping on the road so they could technically not be in the campground. 😂 The nearby forests are glorious though. Quiet and I stumbled across an animal carcass. Watch for predators.
