The campground features 10 RV-friendly sites with ample space for tents and vehicles. The location also puts you near several hiking trails and points of interest, making it a great starting point for exploring the surrounding area.
While the campground offers a peaceful retreat from busy daily life, some guests have noted that the nearby highway can create occasional noise disturbances. Additionally, the overhead airplane traffic and small size of the site may not appeal to everyone, but many visitors appreciate the charm and natural beauty of the location.
If you're planning to visit with a dog, keep in mind that while the campground is pet-friendly, it's important to be mindful of the surrounding environment and other guests. The nearby trails and river provide great opportunities for outdoor fun with your furry companion.
Customers who have stayed at Lower Little Truckee Campground highlight both the positive and unique aspects of their experience:
- The campground's close proximity to the river is a major plus, offering a refreshing environment for swimming and fishing.
- The small size of the site creates a tight-knit atmosphere, though it may feel crowded for some visitors.
- While the RV spots are limited, they provide enough space for most vehicles, including 27' RVs and trucks.
- Some guests have noted that the overhead airplane noise and nearby highway can be disruptive, especially at night.

Overhead airplanes are constant throughout the night felt unwelcome alone with my dog. Beautiful views with a Berkeley preservation camp along a trail that ends at the highway. Very astray vibes there.
The road is RIGHT there, the spots are smaller and super loud until late hours then it's occasional traffic. This is a small campground ( 10 spots?) The river is so close, feet away, so that is lovely. Amenities: Water spigot, trash dumpster, fire rings with grill grate and picnic table, as well as 2 sets of pit toilets. I have a 27' RV and truck which just barely fit in spot #7. The turnaround at the end would not be great for 35' + RV/ Class A.
Great location and easy to access from the freeway. It's an amazing location.. right on the Truckee river. You can listen to the rushing river as the sleep at night under the stars. This spot looks really small from the map view but it's pretty spacious. Defiantly a great family spot
This is our new go-to spot for camping. Been here three times. There are two campgrounds, the lower little Truckee and the upper little Truckee. The host campsite is at the upper little Truckee. Clean Vault toilets, close to the river. However, there is road noise. Very seldom is this Campground full. It is a nice Base Camp for activities in the area, including Truckee, Squaw Valley, and Tahoe City. We have a 17 foot self-contained trailer, so dry camping here is perfect. Exactly 10 miles north of Interstate 80 on California 89.
First off it says it's for trailers 35 and below...I would not take a 35 footer in there we have a 30 and that almost to big ....the camp host singled us out to come and say our truck was in the road(we weren't even set up yet.....) and that generators have to be off by 10....but other people came in to camp and she didn't even talk to them....over all if you're camping in a tent it's fine but for trailers would not!!!! It was a tight fit but we managed to get it backed in!!!!
