Maine Forest Yurts Introduce

Welcome to Maine Forest Yurts, an exceptional offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, providing a distinctive and eco-friendly glamping experience in the heart of Durham, Maine. Spanning over 100 acres of pristine wilderness and situated on the tranquil Runaround Pond, Maine Forest Yurts is an ideal retreat for those seeking to connect with nature without sacrificing comfort. Owned and operated by the Crowley family, including Bob Crowley, winner of Survivor: Gabon, the campground embodies a deep love for the Maine outdoors and a passion for hosting guests in a unique and memorable way. Whether you're looking for an overnight stay, a weekend excursion, or a week-long immersion, Maine Forest Yurts offers a year-round opportunity for adventure and relaxation.

The environment at Maine Forest Yurts is a captivating blend of untouched wilderness and carefully integrated accommodations. The property encompasses a diverse landscape of forests and pond-side serenity. Runaround Pond, composed of two shallow, river-like tributaries, provides a peaceful setting for water activities and serves as a habitat for abundant wildlife. Guests can expect to encounter beavers, otters, osprey, kingfishers, herons, turtles, bass, and pickerel, enhancing the sense of being truly immersed in nature. The yurts themselves are strategically placed within this natural setting, offering privacy and a sense of seclusion. During the winter months, the snow-covered landscape transforms into a picturesque wonderland, perfect for cold-weather activities. The air is crisp and clean, and the absence of significant light pollution makes for incredible stargazing opportunities on clear nights. The environment fosters a genuine connection to the natural world, encouraging guests to unwind, breathe deeply, and appreciate the serene beauty of the Maine wilderness.

Maine Forest Yurts, as a leading destination in the Campgrounds & RV Parks sector, provides a range of services designed to make your glamping experience comfortable and convenient. Each of their fully furnished yurts serves as a cozy and spacious sanctuary. These yurts typically include a wood stove for heating, ensuring a warm and inviting atmosphere even in colder months, with provided firewood. They are equipped with a four-burner gas stove with a full oven inside, a gas grill outside, a sink for dishes, and a coffee maker, allowing guests to prepare their own meals. Kitchen essentials, including pots, pans, utensils, plates, and cups, are generally supplied. For sleeping arrangements, yurts often feature bunk beds and futons that convert into full beds, comfortably accommodating up to six people. While bedding is not always included, it can typically be rented for a small additional cost, or guests can bring their own sleeping bags and linens. Each yurt has a private composting outhouse and a three-season, gravity-fed shower stall, with water for warm showers that can be heated on the stove. While there are no electrical outlets in the yurts, a solar battery provides lighting and a USB port for charging cell phones, maintaining a rustic feel while offering essential modern conveniences. For overall waste management, a dumpster, recycling bin, and compost bin are available near the parking area, underscoring the campground's eco-friendly commitment. Additionally, kayaks and canoes are available for guests to use on Runaround Pond, encouraging water-based recreation.

The unique features of Maine Forest Yurts truly set it apart. The primary allure is the authentic yurt experience, offering a blend of traditional camping and the comforts of home. The yurts themselves are 24 feet in diameter and are constructed with wood cut and milled from the property, showcasing a commitment to local resources and sustainability. Each yurt, while offering consistent amenities, possesses its own character. For instance, the "Fisher Ridge Yurt," "Hemlock Ridge Yurt," "Hideaway Yurt," and "Zen Den Yurt" all provide similar layouts but distinct settings within the expansive property. The year-round accessibility is a significant feature, allowing guests to enjoy diverse seasonal activities, from summer kayaking and fishing to winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing directly from the property. The campground is also notably family-friendly and dog-friendly, with children (18 and under) and dogs staying for free, making it an attractive option for families and pet owners. This welcoming policy adds to the inclusive atmosphere of the camp. The concept of "glamping" is at its core, providing an elevated camping experience that appeals to those who appreciate nature but prefer comfortable sleeping arrangements, cooking facilities, and a solid shelter, especially important during Maine's varying weather conditions. The presence of wood stoves is a particularly prized feature for winter camping, allowing guests to stay warm and cozy despite the cold outdoor temperatures.

Maine Forest Yurts offers competitive pricing and some flexible promotional information to attract local users. Rates typically start around $150-$160 per night for one to two adults, with an additional charge for each extra adult. A two-night minimum stay is often required on Friday and Saturday nights, and a three-night minimum during specific holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day. A deposit is required to confirm reservations, with a 14-day cancellation policy for single yurt bookings and a 30-day policy for parties of two or more yurts. Cancellations within 24 hours of arrival will result in the full amount being charged. A key promotional aspect is the free stay for children (18 and under) and dogs, which makes it a very cost-effective option for families. Gift certificates are also available for purchase, offering a flexible present for outdoor enthusiasts. While explicit, continuously advertised discounts may not be universally published, interested parties are encouraged to contact Maine Forest Yurts directly or visit their official website for the most up-to-date pricing and any seasonal specials that might be available. Their positive reputation, often highlighted in reviews as "Superhosts" on platforms like Airbnb, also serves as a strong promotional tool, indicating a high level of guest satisfaction and service. The combination of unique accommodations, extensive recreational opportunities, and a family-friendly policy positions Maine Forest Yurts as a compelling choice for a memorable outdoor getaway in Maine.

My family rented 3 of the yurts for a weekend and had an amazing time. The yurts were warm and cozy from the moment we arrived. The boys had fun sledding, running around the trails and walking on the ponds. We enjoyed family meals, all in one yurt, and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Page, Bob and Peg all greeted us and showed us around the property. We saw several bald eagles and heard a few owls talking back and forth at night. It was the perfect family getaway, connecting with eachother and nature.

Page, Bob and Peggy were great to us during our stay and while we hosted our wedding at walkabout pond. The area is beautiful, the yurts are clean/cozy, and the pond area is magical. Can’t say enough good things about this amazing place and hosts!

We just got back from four nights in the Zen Den. We had SO much fun! What a beautiful setting and it was perfectly equipped to our needs. It's in a great location - 30 minutes to get to the water, tons of hiking, multiple adorable Maine towns, garden stands, farmers markets, etc. The property is in the woods so you've got a ton of shade and it was very comfortable, in all ways. Having access to the water spigot and the oven/stove made things so convenient...I forgot that we didn't have electricity. Brought three dogs, all of which had a blast! What a gem of a place!

A truly wonderful camping experience. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few nights as a quick getaway and to do some much needed connecting with nature. We stayed in the Fisher Ridge Yurt, which was spacious and clean and very comfortable! The yurts can fit six people comfortably and have small kitchens with cookware, stoves, ovens, and a drip coffee maker. (Coffee, granola bars, sugar, and shelf stable creamer were available but we also brought our own.) Definitely bring a cooler for cold items and plenty of fresh drinking water. There are private outhouses and outdoor gravity showers. There are plenty of hiking trails, but unfortunately due to the very wet Maine summer this year, a lot of them were washed out when we went exploring. We still had a great time and we look forward to coming back sometime!
