A large and remote lake in the back country of the Sierra. The drive to get there is winding and long but worth it if you're itching for a great day on the lake. There aren't a ton of people that frequent it so if you can get your boat out there you'll pretty much have an 8 mile long stretch of water to yourself. There are great campsites along the banks for overnight stays which is recommended because the wind picks up at 11am, but if you're able to get out on the water before that you've got nothing but glass all the day around the lake. Also, the view on the drive in is pretty hard to match.
MFP on earth still even after the creek fire. Missing Wagners store.
Great family camping location. Wagner's campground is well maintained, lots of tres for shade and the stream is perfect for kids. We love hiking up all the pools and waterfalls along the stream.
This man-made lake is closed for half the year and the long drive from the city deters many from coming but because of that, the rainbow trout here get large. The meat in the trout here are a nice pinkish color you could’ve sworn it was salmon. The ones caught in the streams generally won’t have that color and have a different flavor.
According to the USDA Sierra National Forest web site this campground (as well as many others) are closed indefinitely due to the wildfires of 2020 > Creek Fire. Boat Launch Ramp + Campgrounds are currently closed for 2021.
