Customer reviews consistently highlight the campground's beautiful setting and spacious campsites. Site 20 is particularly recommended for its seclusion, though it sacrifices the sunset view available from other sites. The campground's access to multiple trails makes it a great base for hiking and exploring the surrounding wilderness.
The campground is described as remote and a bit difficult to reach, which contributes to its quiet and uncrowded atmosphere. This makes it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful camping experience, especially on weekdays. The higher elevation of Marion Mountain provides cooler temperatures, making it a perfect summer campground. For instance, when it's 100°F in Palm Springs, it's typically around 80°F at the campground.
While most visits are positive, some reviewers have noted occasional inconsistencies in the camp host's presence and check-in procedures. There have also been instances of noise disturbances, such as early morning screaming, and campers occupying reserved sites. These issues highlight the unpredictable nature of fellow campers, a factor that should be considered when planning a visit.
Despite these occasional hiccups, Marion Mountain Campground remains a popular choice for those seeking a remote and scenic mountain getaway. The combination of spacious campsites, access to trails, and cooler temperatures makes it a highly recommended destination, particularly for weekday visits.

Customer Reviews
Pretty beautiful spot with spacious campsites. We were at site 20 which I highly recommend because it is far away from other campers but you do sacrifice the sunset view which you can get from the campsites on the other side. Also the campground has access to multiple trails as well. All in all a good place to camp especially if you go on a weekday.
We have been coming here for years and it's a great campground. It's remote and a bit difficult to get to but that also makes quiet and not that crowded. It's high in the mountain so it's a perfect campground for the summer - if it's 100F in Palm Springs, it's 80F here. On our last trip, the camp host didn't come to talk to us and check us in like every other time. There were also kids screaming at 6am and we had someone camped out at our site when we arrived - other people are always the wildcard - just need to keep it in mind.
Started here for our hike up to San Jacinto Peak. Absolutely gorgeous trail. One of my favorites of the SoCal Six Pack of Peaks Challenge. Lots of greener you wouldn't expect to see in summer in Southern California. This route was about 14 miles out and back with over 4500 of elevation gain. The view from the top is amazing! A 360 view of the desert, mountains, and ocean, even Catalina on a clear day.
Clean campgrounds, nice hiking spots, and pretty cheap sites. When you book your site make sure you check that campfires are allowed. I went in August of 2020 and they had to close firepits down due to fire season. Just double check before booking. The campsite is great for tent camping and hiking.
A great place to get a feel for the mountains and forests... however I think that should remove the campground bathrooms... less than obviously the mosquitos and flies are spreading diseases at a less than desirable rate... hitting the whole family with fever. They were not very clean anyway and kind of look dangerous.
