Mark Twain State Park is an absolutely lovely place to spend some time in nature. Facilities are well maintained and the M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center is beautiful. There's an abundance of wildlife year round.
Great first visit. Came with the dogs hoping to hike and we were not disappointed with ~6mi of looped trails and several safe lakeside swimming spots that the pups enjoyed. The trails were well maintained and the park was clean and safe. We will be back for sure
Great hiking trails with good views. However…note that this area is absolutely laden with ticks. Before hiking here, I followed all the normal precautions…sprayed bug repellent, wore pants, tucked pant legs into my socks. After doing a three mile hike I found at least 15 ticks (!) walking around on my clothes. We had to pull at least a dozen ticks off each of our dogs. Not sure I’d do these trails again with that much tick exposure.
Went to the park for the hiking trails and views for a day trip. The trails were nice, lots of nature and views to check out. You can check out historic Florida, MO. while you're there with another trail around the town
This was my first visit to this location (from St. Louis) and we had a great time. I rented a tent site and the lot was even and shaded, seemed like most were. Plenty of space also. There is a side that had a neat playground for kiddos, walking trails, and the workers were wonderful. Bathrooms and showers were not too far from any site and clean. My pup loved it as well (just make sure they have their tick treatments, we all found a few so be sure to check yourself too!). Overall it’s a nice place to camp and we will definitely be back!
