Marmot Rock Campground Introduce
Marmot Rock Campground, located in the scenic Shaver Lake, CA 93664, offers a unique and secluded camping experience within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category. This campground is ideal for those seeking a tranquil escape into nature, with beautiful lake views and ample opportunities for hiking and exploration.
Marmot Rock Campground is known for its stunning location and peaceful atmosphere. However, it's important to note that the campground is remote. Visitors should be prepared for limited cell phone service (at least an hour away), and the closest store is approximately 30 minutes away. The nearest gas station is about an hour and a half away, so it's crucial to arrive with sufficient fuel and supplies.
The campground offers various campsites, some of which are located directly by the lake. These lakefront sites can be crowded during busy seasons, so visitors seeking solitude may prefer the more secluded sites located further up the hill, such as site 15. These sites, while slightly removed from the lake views, offer more privacy and a quieter environment.
Visitors can enjoy beautiful hikes and explore the open wilderness surrounding the campground. The lake itself provides opportunities for swimming and relaxing. Amenities at Marmot Rock Campground are basic, including pit toilets and dumpsters. There is no running water available, and parking can be limited.
Key features of Marmot Rock Campground include:
- Beautiful lakefront campsites.
- Hiking trails and open wilderness for exploration.
- Peaceful and secluded environment.
- Pit toilets and dumpsters on site.
- Remote location with limited cell service.
- Close proximity to Shaver Lake.
While the campground's remote location may present some challenges, the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful surroundings make Marmot Rock Campground a worthwhile destination for those seeking a true wilderness experience. Visitors should be prepared for limited amenities and bring all necessary supplies. It's also worth noting that noise levels can vary, and due to the remoteness, enforcement of campground regulations may be limited.
If you're looking for a fantastic, peaceful lake getaway in the mountains, Marmot Rock Campground is worth the drive. Enjoy the cool water, explore the shoreline and nearby trails, and have a relaxing time.

A beautiful place to stay! (You will be at least 1 hour away from cell phone service and 30 minutes from the closest store) Beautiful hikes close by with open wilderness that you can wander around in for days! When I first pulled into this site I thought there were only a handful of campsites but you just have to park and walk towards the lake the find them. The ones by the lake are crowded though and you'll have to deal with staying close to others if it's a busy season. If you can get one of the 3 sites at the end. Site 15, where I stayed, is located up the hill and furthest away from everyone, but lacks some of the view (about 200ft back from the lake). I did very much enjoy this site though and would go back here! Aside from young drunk kids who play their music too loud and yell at night it was a great stay! Unfortunately you're just too far out to hope that a ranger or anyone will come enforce the camp regulations, so if someone is obnoxious then you have to deal with them yourself. The closest store has high prices so bring everything you need. You'll also be about an hour and half from a gas station so make sure you're not rolling up on empty!
Worth the drive. Fantastic peaceful lake back in the mountains with a tight but enjoyable campsite right on the water. We got sites 10-11 and felt like we had the prime real estate. Pit toilets on site can smell occasionally, no running water nearby I could tell, limited parking and close proximity to others but very worth it. Dumpsters on site are nice so you don't have to haul out your trash. We had perfect weather, enjoyed the nice cool water, explored the shoreline and some nearby trails, and generally had a very fun and relaxing time.
Had such a wonderful time here! It was our first time camping in a long while and being by the lake was so nice. We didn’t get to go fishing or do any of the other activities so can’t wait to go back! It was pretty hot when we went and cold at night, so we brought a canopy to help wit the shade. Toilets were a bit smelly but there was another one up ahead that worked as an alternative.
Wonderful time. Lake was very close and the camp had plenty of shade. We were told weekends we're party times, but for my family, Monday-Wednesday was very nice.
Marmot Rock is my favorite camping spot, great fishing had an amazing time been coming here for 12 years with many more summers to go.
