This privately-owned campground prides itself on providing a blend of natural beauty, extensive amenities, and convenient access to one of America's most significant historical sites, making it an appealing choice for families, RV enthusiasts, and tent campers alike.
The environment of Gettysburg Campground is characterized by its advantageous location and natural features. Situated approximately 3 miles west of the center of Gettysburg, the campground spans 26 acres and is bordered by the picturesque Marsh Creek, lending a serene and natural backdrop to many of its sites. The presence of Marsh Creek allows for a tranquil atmosphere and offers opportunities for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking directly from the campground. The general terrain is described as relatively flat, contributing to ease of access and setup for RVs. Despite its proximity to a historically rich town, the campground maintains a peaceful and relaxed environment, allowing campers to unwind after a day of exploration. Services at Gettysburg Campground are extensive and designed to ensure a comfortable and convenient stay for all types of campers. The campground offers a wide variety of site types to accommodate different needs, including over 200 RV sites, charming cabins, and rustic cottages, in addition to a dedicated primitive tent area along Marsh Creek. For RV campers, a significant number of sites provide full hookups (water, electric, and sewer), with both 30-amp and 50-amp electric service available. The campground is noted for being "big-rig friendly," with many generously sized, level gravel or paved sites, including pull-through options that accommodate larger recreational vehicles and those towing extra equipment. Planned activities and themed weekends, especially during the season, are a significant feature, with events like hayrides, crafts for children and adults, and even live bands on Saturday nights. Recent improvements (as of 2024) include a focus on "History Comes Alive" events, featuring local historical reenactment groups with musket firing demonstrations, mock army enlistment programs, Civil War-era food taste tests, and even Civil War campouts with Union vs. Confederate battles. Some weekends may even incorporate World War II history with tanks and vehicles from the World War II American Experience Museum. Beyond on-site amenities, the campground's prime location provides unparalleled access to the historical attractions of Gettysburg. It's just a short drive to the Gettysburg National Military Park, museums, exhibits, the Eisenhower National Historic Site, and various ghost walks, gift shops, and restaurants in downtown Gettysburg. Customer Reviews
Very primitive field sites with electric and water hookups. The dump station is kind of iffy make sure u bring cloves to throw away as well as a dirty bag as well as water to rinse dump lines. The bath house doubles as a sana since the water heater is in the same room as toilet and shower. Great campground for a couple to escape to, but may wanna stay up the road if u have kids.
Not really a campground. Just a big open field. No tables or fire pits. Just a couple of pedestal charcoal cooker things. It's cheap though but I don't think it was worth it.
Best price in the area by far! It's pretty quiet especially so close to the road. Tent sites on the right, rv to the left with a large field in the middle, great for Frisbee or playing catch. Fishing/ kayak in a small channel. Tent sites have a small metal grill, ground is grass, was flat and soft. Tons of fireflies (lightening bugs) in june/july, lots of beetles, minimal other insects including mosquitoes which I attract from everywhere. There is a bath house, with shower and sinks, it was clean.
As other reviewers have stated, this is an unconventional campground. Most of the trailers/RVs seem to be permanent residents. The bath house (a very small building about midway down the motor vehicle side) was locked, with an unfriendly handwritten note on the door. There's an illegible sign at the entrance; I could almost make out a phone number. Over the course of several days, I called; no one picked up. Arriving on site, I tried again. No one called me back. It was a very quiet night, with zero mosquitos.
Having camped frequently and have traveled all over the United States, this campground, although small, is so pretty and has a beautiful large yard to have fun with volleyball, badmitten, softball, or whatever and a large pavilion to hold large group picnics. However, there seems to be a problem with the septic system. There was a strong stench which permeated all around our site...making cooking and eating unpleasant! The facilities were lacking much...with only a small building with 2 separate rooms, each room was equipped with one shower, comode, and sink. And one shower room was locked for the entirety of our 5 night stay. A beautiful, small and quiet park, needing some serious septic work and updating the facilities. Would love to come back...but not until corrections are made.
