This lil spot was exactly as expected. It's boondocking with a 30amp. If you have all your own amenities - you'll be quite content. It's been a great spot to do remote work from which was the goal. You do get the in-town sound experience from traffic and dogs nearby etc. But overall the waterside view was very pretty. Every spot was clean with no trash and the bathroom was the typical state park pit toilet. If you're wanting a spot for family adventure, hiking, boating etc... this is not that spot.
Nice location along the Illinois River, intimate and not crowded. Fishing is ok as boat access is challenging when the river is low.
2024 UPDATE!! By far the worst campground in probably the whole state. Campground host is nonexistent, theres homeless people basically just living there. People showed up at 2 in the morning and blasted music until 4am. The sites were so covered in trash, broken glass and random items we couldn't even park in the parking spot without popping a tire. Fire pit was literally overflowing with beer cans, diapers(YES DIRTY DIAPERS), balloons, glass etc wasn't even usable. Sites are literally right next to the road, and the truck traffic is nonstop so enjoy that. Bathrooms haven't been cleaned since the campground opened probably, literally feces on the walls, floor, somehow the ceiling. We were at a loss as to how an apparent state campground can look like this. They need to condemn the whole place. We planned on staying a week, we left the next day. DO NOT STAY HERE
One of our favorite camping areas. Small campground along Illinois River. Quiet and beautiful area. One side is for electric hookup and other is primitive tent camping. Campground host is one of the best of all the campgrounds we visit.
Stop!! This is basically a homeless camp. I spoke with “campers” who had been there 35 days; 1 huge tent with 4 pop up shelters and tarps. A tv blaring during the day. Oh.. and the vault toilet is infested with spiders. The busy street is also RIGHT THERE next to the sites. I left after one night even though I paid for more.
Nice clean park for camping and fishing, beautiful scenery.
