Mathews Arm Campground is a fantastic spot for nature lovers, especially in the fall! Its location right next to Skyline Drive offers stunning scenery, making it a perfect place to soak in the autumn colors. One of the highlights of our stay was the incredibly clear night sky—we loved the stargazing information session, which made the experience even more special. We camped in our Tesla, which required some extra planning since there’s no charging station nearby. If you’re doing EV camping, make sure to manage your battery carefully. That said, the peaceful surroundings and easy access to hiking trails made it all worthwhile. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet and scenic getaway in Shenandoah National Park!

We loved every minute of our time at Matthew's Arm. We showed up at 8:30am on Saturday to claim a first-come-first-serve spot and were lucky to get a great one, A86. Private with woods across from us! You are pretty close to your neighbors here, but that can be a bonus for meeting people. I highly recommend this site for singles, couples, and families. If you're feeling bold, do the hike down to the waterfalls.

Campground itself is not bad. Some are little too open, close to the road and close to other sites but overall not too bad. There is a trail that goes around the campground. You won't see people on it but you can hear them all day. So it's not so quiet. There is no camp store at the campground. You need to drive 5-10 minutes for it. 2 bad experiences yesterday. 1. Potable water at dump station is broken. They know it and wrapped it with some tape which doesn't help at all. The cover of sewer is broken too. Not so well maintained. 2. One of volunteer campsite host(I believe he was at the site between loop A and C) walking down, in the middle of the road, blocking the road, walked straight to my car and made me completely stop. Then kept staring at me with no words then passed by me. I wasn't speeding, nor I had a space to move out for him. He wasn't supposed to walk in the middle of the road and get mad at me. That was rude and weird. He shouldn't work there as camp host.

Loved the campground! The restrooms are clean, and there is a sink for cleaning utensils and also a separate tap to fill your water. There are many trails nearby as well. 🏕️ #camping #outdoors #nature

A nice park at the north end of Shenandoah. It has bathrooms with toilets and running water, but no showers. The spots are really close to each other with very few trees in-between. We had a spot that was right next to the bathroom, but there was no walking path for the bathroom- this meant that everybody walked through our area. In the middle of the night people would end up right next to our cars and picnic area. I wasn't really a fan of this. The rangers were really helpful and attentive to the campground. I saw them coming by frequently.
