Beautiful campground with water (just a turn of the spigot; no pumping needed); trash pickup in bear-safe boxes; wood for sale from the camp host (Tim was fantastic and kept the bathrooms super clean); river access for fly-fishing with plenty of areas devoid of brushy banks; large pit toilet bathrooms that are lighted inside and out; options for both RV camping with some electric hook-ups and tent camping with wooden picnic tables and metal drum fire rings with grills. We were here in mid-Sept. and the temps were 45 degrees at both 8:30 pm and 9am with daytime highs of 60-65 degrees. We'll be back!
Renegade 38 - Stayed here on a Thursday- Sunday in early September. What a surprise! Was dreading the site 16 electric location. It was great. Plenty of roomabout 1/2 filled sites. Electric 50A. Short walk to the river with beautiful views. Road to get here is ok, no issues in a Super C. Park was easy to navigate..one other Class A. Two electric sites right on the water are not listed on Recreation.govfirst come. Water at spigots. Fairly remote so come with water & groceries. Dolores is 25 minutes away & is very small. We camped at Mavreeso Campground / San Juan in a Motorhome.
This is our family's favorite campground in the world. Right by the river. No cell service. No wifi. Lots of hummingbirds. If you really want to get away this is a hidden gem! And Tim, the campground host, is the best!
Small campground with 19 well-spaced sites beneath spruce and fir, some located along the West Dolores River. Camped during Winter Season, no services other than open bathrooms for $14/da. (No Campground Host, water, dumpsters or electric.) Pack-it-In, Pack-it-Out. Note: usual price for non-electric campsite is $27/day which seems excessive.
I come to this campground because of the river, but it is the wonderful camp host that keeps me returning. Tim is a wonder. He knows the area, knows obscure roads and ways all across the US, is friendly to all, and the campground and toilets are well maintained. Loved my time there so much that I stayed the max time (1 month). Will return.
