Customer Reviews
This is a great park that is close enough to get to but feels like you're away from everything once you are there. I highly recommend if you're in the area it is great for families or for a solo walk. The trails are easy to moderate with the moderate not being too bad. Enjoy!
It is a beautiful park to visit in the Austin area. It was $6.00 per car to get in. They have nice hiking, walking, and bike trails. The rock around the falls area has amazing formations. The upper falls isn't really a fall, more like a small stream going over the rock. They stock the pond at the upper falls with trout from Nov to March. There were a lot of people fishing for them.
As others have mentioned, you will hear traffic from the airport and highway, but we brought a fan for white noise so that was helpful information. We were camping on the Grapevine loop, and liked the privacy as well as (overall) quiet atmosphere. The weather was perfect the few days before Christmas, although the water was lower than I thought the falls would be. Very easy for young kids to slip and fall in the water so grippy water shoes or water boots might be helpful. I collect a few souvenirs from each state park we visit and I regret that this one did not have a McKinney Falls patch in stock which really bummed me out especially since it’s not a short trip back and they gave me no options to ship one to me when I asked when they would get more. I included photos of their souvenir selection since I always search for this in review before I visit a new park and rarely see them. Lastly, hike and bike trail was really nice, but be aware you’ll need an actual mountain bike because it involves a lot of inclines. Otherwise hiking it is fine. Showers by our loop were good on the men’s side but the women’s had a steady stream of water, not just a drip, full stream, even when turned completely off. I’m assuming that’s why the water pressure was so weak in the women’s, because my husband said the men’s side was fine and the water was hot
My family and I had fun camping and exploring the park. River was dry, and kids didn't have any luck catching fish, but water was nice to take a dip in. Our camp site was perfect. We were right across the restrooms. The restrooms were clean and nice and had hot water for a nice shower. My 4 star rating is only because I had a hard time sleeping at night. The camp site is close to a heavy traffic road and I can just hear the cars all night long. The rest of our time was great. My kids loved it
Had a great time exploring McKinney Falls State Park! We went on a 4-mile hike, and the trail was well-maintained and easy to navigate. The surroundings were beautiful, offering a peaceful escape into nature. Along the way, we were lucky to spot some deer, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it was a fun and refreshing outing, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy a scenic hike and some wildlife sightings. Whether you're a casual hiker or someone looking for a relaxing outdoor adventure, this park is definitely worth a visit.
