I absolutely love Mel's Place! Every time I stay here, I get a unique experience.. as with most places in the Big Bend area. However, Mel is what truly sets it apart from the rest. You can definitely expect big views and great hospitality here! We always bring our own ground tents or rooftop tents and a larger crew, and Mel always finds a way to accommodate us all. I definitely recommend this place to everyone whenever I hear that someone is making a trip the area!
Mel’s place is absolutely stunning and she is a fantastic host. We came through as an Overland group and we’re able to get what in my opinion is one of the best spots on her property. The two ridge lines perfectly frame the Chisos Basin and the lighting at sun set is surreal. If you are looking for a place to camp that has great access to everything the Big Bend region has to offer stay with Mel. You will leave with part of your soul tethered to this place.
Wonderful view of the mountains , the quietness and the privacy. We had a great time at our campsite, so close to town for supplies or if your going hiking to Big Bend. The tent was big enough for us 2 and the bedding inside the tent was great. We felt safe and comfortable at night. We loved the stargazing at night sitting by the camp fire after a long day of hiking. Highly recommend Mel's place if you are looking to camp and don't have a tent, there are mulitple camping sites available. Also if you just want to sit by the fire pit or even grill. Even the outhouse was clean and very decorative. Showers not available there but you can shower at the RV resort down the exit a few minutes away with a small $2 fee.
Mel’s place is where we always camp when in Terlingua. The proximity to the ghost town is great! Also, it’s nestled right between the state and National park so you essentially get to choose your own adventure for the day. The sunrise and sunset are both gorgeous, as the light plays off the Chisos Basin, which is the star of this campsite. The biggest bonus is Mel herself. Very sweet and accommodating. Obviously, I highly recommend camping here …
Incredible camping spot. The campsite is a short drive off the main road, so it feels more secluded than sites right off the road. Mel's place was also a great spot to see the starry night sky.
