Mesa Verde National Park is a beautiful place to admire both nature and history. The Pueblos lived in Mesa Verde for around 700 years from 600 to 1300. Their impact is still seen today. I went on the Mesa Top route, which is a driving route with several stops. The first stop was at the pit houses, built between 700 and 950, which have only the foundation and some ventilator shafts left. After 950, they started building with stone and masonry, which are the cliff structures still standing today that everyone wants to visit. The route had several lookout points where one could see the dwellings from a distance on the other side of the valley. The stone structures were under a cliff overhang and had many levels, windows, and steps. Unfortunately, the cliff palace loop, which goes right up to the ruins, closed for the winter at the end of October. Fortunately, I was still able to stop at the ruins of the Sun Temple, built around 1250. Besides the old Pueblo ruins, there are several great hiking trails with great views of the canyons and surrounding mountains. I really enjoyed my time at Mesa Verde, despite the limitations.
Mesa Verde National Park is amazing! We visited in October and that was a great time to be there. There is a visitor's center by the main entrance that is worth stopping at. Then, there are 2 cafes within the park (but one is farther away than the other so make sure to ask). We visited the biggest cliff dwelling called Cliff Palace and did the tour. It was amazing. I am so glad we did that. We did it with four kids, and they all did great even though there are some steep stairs and some log ladders. Our youngest was 5 yrs old and did fine. You can try out the log ladders at the visitor's center to make sure everyone in your group can do them! Make sure to make ticket reservations before going to the park. We were able to get tickets the day before arrival but I know that that is not always the case. You may need them way in advance because spots fill up quickly!
What a great way to learn about the history of original settlers. The park is partially closed during the winter, so plan your trip accordingly. If you want to do the ranger led hikes, you have to come between the spring and fall. We were able to tour the Mesa Top Loop and gave excellent vibes of many Pueblo. 1 day is not enough to adequately explore this park!
Absolutely amazing!!!!! The vision of villagers building, farming and living here was magical. Very well taken care of area. Amazingly preserved. Affordable entry fees. Full moon and coyotes completed our anniversary trip.
Amazing place to visit it's taking a step back in time. the museum is free and they only give tours during the warmer months but you can still walk the trails and see the different sites where the natives lived. It's a must for anyone who enjoys the outdoors and history. Amazing job Colorado for preserving this beautiful place ππ€πΊπ²πΊπ²πΊπ²
