Mesaba Cooperative Park Introduce
**Introduction / Overview**
For **Minnesota** residents seeking a camping experience that offers more than just a lake and a fire pit, **Mesaba Cooperative Park** near **Hibbing** is a truly unique destination. Established in 1929 by Finnish progressives from the Mesaba Range Co-operative Federation, this member-owned park is one of the few continuously operated cooperative parks remaining in the country. It is a living, breathing historical artifact—listed on the National Register of Historic Places—that tells the powerful story of the region's labor movement, political history, and the enduring Finnish immigrant culture.
Spanning 240 acres of beautiful woodlands surrounding the private, spring-fed **Lake North Star**, the Park offers a serene and secluded atmosphere that immediately impresses visitors. Far from being a mere relic, the park remains a vibrant community space that is fully open to the public, offering diverse camping options alongside historical structures like its centerpiece, the classic 1930s dance pavilion. As one visitor noted, it's a "beautiful relic that has kept the enchantment of its’ notable past." The environment is "quiet and secluded," blending opportunities for relaxation with the chance to engage with a profound piece of Minnesota's Iron Range history.
Whether you are drawn by the unique historical significance, the beautiful natural setting on a private lake, or the modern, well-maintained facilities, Mesaba Cooperative Park provides an enriching and memorable alternative to conventional campgrounds. It operates on principles of cooperation, peace, and justice, offering a warm and hospitable welcome to all who visit, preserving its original spirit while evolving to meet the needs of today's Minnesota outdoor enthusiast.

Customer Reviews
We stopped by on weekday afternoon after reading about the history of the place in a newspaper article. We found a beautiful relic that has kept the enchantment of its’ notable past. We had a nice visit with the caretakers that were charming and hospitable.
Quiet and secluded, Nice beach and lots of trails!
We've attended the MId-Summer's festival for years and every time have had a wonderful and heart-warming experience. The food is always excellent. I love how low-key & laid back the atmosphere is. One can easily engage in pleasant conversations. The little lake provides a lovely swimming beach, and the sauna is HOT! We love to take a canoe out and just paddle around the lake, notice the loons, see the forest in it's full summer regalia. It's a great place for the whole family or just one or two. There are lots of nice people, interesting presenters, good food, and music is always a big part of the 3 day weekend! Thanks to all the worker bees that make this happen.
Nice little place. Great beach and equipment to use while your there. Wonderful experience.
I camped at this campground in 1984. It was a nice campground.
