UPDATE : after hating site #1 for our 40 ft triple slide, I walked the grounds and saw that this is a lovely, older, well kept campground that would be wonderful for families with smaller campers. Lots of trees give nice shade and atmosphere. Pool looks nice, lots for kids to do. Just bring really long cords and long water hoses. That said: site #1 may well be the worst site I have ever stayed at in any campground. It has road on three sides between 3 and 10 ft from my awning. It is very unlevel, all dirt no grass, directly across from the pump out and a dilapidated dry rotted picnic table to round it out. While trees on site 1 force you to park so close to the road, you will need 40 ft of electric cord to plug in and have to put in the awning to have a fire. On site 2, you will need to run your cord under your camper and through your campsite to plug in. Also, site 2 is 21 ft across from tree to fire pit. If you have slides or awning you will not be using the fire pit. Very very dissatisfied with these sites. The staff are, however, very friendly. It looks like a number of campers stay here long term. NOT recommended for big rigs, but a cool, old style campground with good up north atmosphere.
This was an extremely great find. It was clean with a lot to do. My granddaughter and us loved the pool, miniature golf, and walking and riding bikes. There are new owners who checked in with us to make sure our stay was perfect. We recommend this park to anyone of all ages. We will be back every year. Cindy
This campground could have great potential. Owners and staff are nice. Other campers were friendly but this place has many downfalls. The grounds are almost 100 percent dirt. The dog park had more grass than any place else. They have a huge bug issue. Yes were camping and bugs are to be expected, but the hundreds of huge black carpenter ants everywhere on our site was ridiculous. Love the fact they have activities for the kids but sad when bingo is all old people and the only ones that win. The pool is nice, camp store is practically empty. Overall we were disappointed with our stay.
Excellent Campsite. The facilities were always clean and well maintained. The staff were friendly and accommodating. A perfect place to bring your kids. Super Cool Michigan Mitten Swimming Pool..!! A great camp store that has everything you forgot to bring. Very close to Michigan nature attractions. This campground has been added to my Favorites.
We took a shot in the dark and snagged the last seasonal spot available a few years ago. Site unseen, we paid in full and have never looked back. Our family believes we won the lotto with this home away from home. This place is just the right amount of nature mixed with large sites and modern amenities. We have quickly made friends with every staff member, including the owners. Although there are rules, there is still plenty of fun to be had. Come visit and ask about the camp pet, Paul. We love it at Michigan Oaks!
I would probably give 2 1/2 stars. I will try to give an in-depth review and I will also post many pictures that will hopefully help people make an educated decision about whether this place is right for them. First of all - we were really looking for a cabin for 6, but it's really hard to find a campground with a cabin for 6 in this area - and this is the place the other members of our family wanted to camp. The site states that the cabin sleeps 4 (2 adults and 2 children), but additional persons are $5 extra per night. Despite this they told us we could have no more than 4 people in the cabin. We decided to rent the cabin and a campsite across the street for the other 2 members of our group. One of our group couldn't make it, so surely we could add just 1 more person, right? At check-in they stuck with saying it was 4 people per cabin. It cost us an extra $200 dollars to stay for 1 person in our group to stay in a tent on a tent site across the street. We checked into our comfort cabin and saw just how tiny it was! It really is very snug - and I see now how they can say only 4 people can sleep here. We actually had 3 adults and 1 small child - and it was a struggle. The bunks they have in the comfort cabin are about 1/2 the size of a standard twin size and have mattresses that are only a few inches thick. They are on built in bunks that have supports that are little better than thin plywood. I am an average sized woman and it creaked when I laid down, and I had all sorts of pressure points. Not to mention - the top bunk rail doesn't go all the way across, so the small child couldn't sleep up top. We ended up taking the mattress off of the top bunk (since the two larger adults couldn't sleep up there) and putting it on the floor for one adult, while the other slept on the futon and I slept with my child on the tiny bunk bed. It was uncomfortable for all of us really, even my mother who slept on the futon woke up with creaks and crimps. Besides sleeping arrangements the cabin was nice enough; it had a decent fridge (with a freezer section that works very well), a two well sink, a microwave, storage space, a toilet, and a shower (although it was a little short and small, and tended to back-up [even on the first use] - oh and there's about enough hot water for a 10 minute shower). They do provide some dishes and a few luxuries (I attached a list to the photos I'm uploading). I was a little concerned that there was rat poison under the cupboard and that the fire extinguisher was not up to date. The lot the cabin is on is not only 100% sand with no grass, but also lots of sharp rocks - so make sure you bring shoes you plan on wearing the entire time. Also - everything you bring will be very dirty when you leave. The "rustic" tent site across the street was actually a little grassy though. Our picnic table was also wobbly - so we had to shim it. The tree across the way was half dead and we heard a branch crack while we were sitting outside one day, but that's no surprise - because when they moved my aunt's site without permission (another person wanted her site to be closer to their group, but they wouldn't move my aunt closer to us), they told her half of their trees were dying and about to fall down and they were surprised she'd want to hang a hammock on them (she had had a specific site reserved so her granddaughter could hang up her hammock in the trees). The pool was nice (although VERY chlorinated, one time I felt slick getting out - and I still can't get the chlorine smell out of my swimsuit), but it also didn't seem heated, as it was very cold even on the warmer days of our stay. The showers across from the cabins seemed pretty clean, but also a little disheveled with loose or missing tiles. Also 2 out of the three showers there wouldn't put out hot water. The putt-putt was nice, and it's great they have some free games. My kids had a good time. It was also close to a lot of fun places! The staff seemed pretty friendly too. Overall, I'd probably stay somewhere else next time (for the price especially).
A nice campground, the bathrooms are clean. There is a steep hill the kids ride there bikes down. That's scary. Plus they charge 5$ per person who visit. Do if you have family or friends who visit. They have to pay 5 each just to spend time with you. But we still go back Cuzz it's a fun place.
Michigan Oaks is always a fun, relaxing week year after year for our family! The staff is fantastic and the campground is clean and well maintained! Thanks Michigan Oaks for family fun every summer for a decade!!!
It’s a nice place and well kept , many things to keep the kids busy , a good camping experience for family gatherings
Awesome campground, very clean bathrooms, very friendly and helpful staff. A must see photos don't do justice this is one I just got today.
