Unfortunately Millard Canyon Group site 2 (part of Silverwood Lake campground) is not near the parking area. All your camping gear needs to be walked 200 feet to the site location and if you have people in your group in trailers they essentially won’t be camping with you as they will be parked in the parking lots. Additionally site 2 is the closest to the creek so those in site 1 and 3 will come into your site and use the creek there. The biggest disappointment with this site however is the amount of trash the visitors leave behind. When we arrived the site was covered in broken water balloons. My three young children picked up over 900 pieces of trash and didn’t make a dent at all. There is a nice large field between all the group sites and it appears others thought it appropriate to have a water balloon fight there and leave their trash. While there we also found people who were enjoying the creek left their bottle caps in the creek as well. In another note the park staff talks about how frequent black bears are in the area, however there are not bear boxes at each campsite, nor bear proof bins, and there are basic trash cans at each site without campers discarding trash in dumpster each night. We did find out however that the bears frequent the day use areas every night and are more frequent in the main campgrounds near the lake because of this. There is not a single bear proof trash container the Silverwood Lake SRA to my knowledge. Lastly the Nature Center is lovely, and worth visiting, but unfortunately you need to wait in the hours long line of cars trying to access the lake each morning. They really should consider a separate entrance for those visiting just the nature center or are existing campers.
Group campsite. Reservations only. 3 availspot but big for multiple campsites. Has plentiful of parking. And restrooms. The campsites we were in was the biggest and had plenty of picnic tables and areas gor grilling and campfire. River is close by Non venomous snakes were seen and 2 type of frogs are seen as well. Dog friendly. The reservation go for 250-300. There's is a trail that takes you to the lake, its a walk but worth it. The trail starts ina different location but it isn't far from the campsites.
Great place to camp. We go every year. We love this place. Only down side there are no showers. But other then that its great
Pretty well secluded, decent amenities for large groups. It's a long good trek to the lake. Easy access to some good trails.
Lake Silverwood is an awesome spot for friends, family, or any group of folks looking to enjoy nature. Many camp grounds, hiking and bike trails (E-Bike friends), and the lake to fill your day with adventure.
