Solo traveler, good lighting, water access almost in my campground, bathhouse a short walk, cheaper than staying in the park, close to places to eat, the electric at my site worked well and was able to just plug in an extension cord. Only drawback that kept this from 5stars was the bathhouse being creepy. Overall I felt safe here and slept well. Thank you
Perfect location for Diamond Hunters! We rented the Miners Cabin ( 4 adults, 2 dogs) and found it to be very nice! Well appointed with comfy quality furniture, clean comfy beds and a recently updated bathroom. The outside could use a bit of maintainance, but for the purpose of our visit, it was more than adequate! Bring your own towels because they are not provided. There's a small collection of mining tools on the screened in front porch. The fire pit outside was very helpful in relaxing after a long, fruitless day of diamond hunting!
Go with the bad reviews. It does not look, like, any of the pictures that are posted. Very run down. Would not recommend. I agree about this place being sketchy, especially, with it looking like, long-term residents, residing there. I wouldn't take children there. We had paid our part. Once we were setting our camper up.... then observing more, of the residents living there, it was a no! Did not try to ask for our money back! Hooked up our camper and got the hell out of there! Did not feel safe, especially, after seeing the residents coming out of their campers. Felt like the Hills Have Eyes.
This is a basic campground just outside Crater of Diamonds State Park. There are RV pads with power and water, but I'm not sure if they have a dump station or sewer connects. I had the primitive camping area entirely to myself for a few days. Those sites have fire pits, and 4 sites have picnic tables. Plenty of shade for tents and RVs alike, and the tent area is well separated from the RV sites. No water on the tent side, but water and restroom/showers are available near the office.
Location, if you want to endure the tourist trap of crater of diamonds, is great. Other than that, terrible. Bathrooms are absolutely gross. Camp sites are tiny. We rented the mini cabin and there was duct tape around the door frame and on the floor with light shining through it. Smelled extremely strong of flowery cleaner. We left and payed $200 for a hotel just not to stay there.
We used the primitive campground. Nice area. Clean and well kept. Only wish was that they unlock the water pump at the campground so we didn't have to walk to the restrooms to fill up our canteens.
2 forty year old adults, 1 four year old, and a dog. We stayed 2 nights in the 2 bdrm cabin. It has wifi, TV with things to watch comfy couch and 2 gliders, 2 beds that were adequate. There are some basic kitchen supplies and a grill if you want to save money and cook. Bring your own towels, napkins, ppr towels as those are not provided. Fire ring out back with a nice creek. You can tell people have RV's there full time, they are friendly enough. We will definitely rent it again next time we come down. It's nothing fantastic, but it is cozy and safe.
Stay away, the bathrooms here are terrible, scary terrible. Looks exactly as it's a Hollywood movie set for a scary horror movie. Would not recommend unless you have absolutely nowhere else. Even then the side of the road would probably be safer. Only redeeming feature is its close distance to the state park
