Miracle Rock Recreation Area Introduce

Welcome to Miracle Rock Recreation Area, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Glade Park, Colorado. This unique destination offers a blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and a serene camping experience. Whether you're a seasoned camper or a first-time visitor, Miracle Rock Recreation Area promises an unforgettable escape into nature.

Miracle Rock Recreation Area is not your typical campground. It is a picnic area that allows for free camping stays of up to 14 days, though this is subject to change. The campground features four family campsites equipped with fire pits, picnic tables, and some shade. While the summer months can get quite hot during the day, the nights are pleasantly cool, making it an ideal spot for stargazing and campfire gatherings.

One of the main attractions of the area is the easy 1/2-mile trail that leads to the base of Miracle Rock. This geological marvel is a massive rock perched precariously on a small, one-foot pedestal, creating a sight that is both awe-inspiring and photogenic. The trail is suitable for hikers of all skill levels, making it a perfect activity for families and solo adventurers alike.

Just a couple of miles up the road, you'll find the "Potholes," a stunning area where the river has carved through granite, creating a series of natural pools. This spot is popular for swimming, though visitors are advised to exercise caution due to its inherent dangers. The Potholes offer a refreshing retreat and a chance to cool off after a day of exploration.

Miracle Rock Recreation Area operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with no fees or reservations required. This makes it an accessible option for spontaneous getaways. However, it's important to note that the area is for rent camping only, so come prepared with all the essentials for a comfortable stay.

Here’s what some of our visitors have to say:

  • "Miracle Rock is a must-see! The hike is easy, and the rock itself is incredible. The surrounding area is so peaceful, and the Potholes are a great bonus!"
  • "We loved the free camping and the simplicity of the site. It's a great place to disconnect and enjoy nature. The Potholes are beautiful but definitely be careful if you decide to swim."
  • "The trail to Miracle Rock is perfect for families. Our kids had a blast exploring, and we all enjoyed the scenic views. The campsites are basic but clean and well-maintained."

Miracle Rock Recreation Area is a fantastic destination for those looking to immerse themselves in the great outdoors. With its unique geological features, easy hiking trails, and free camping options, it’s a place where memories are made. Pack your gear, gather your loved ones, and head to Miracle Rock Recreation Area for an adventure you won’t soon forget!

Miracle Rock Campground is actually a picnic area and not a dedicated campground. Currently the BLM allows stays up to 14 days but that could change at any time. The campground consists of four family campsites with fire pits, tables and some shade. It can get very hot during the summer months and pretty cool at night. There are no fees for camping, nor are there reservations, so it is pretty much a first come first served basis. It is only for rent camping. There is an easy 1/2 mile trail that leads you to the base of Miracle Rock which is a huge rock sitting on top of a small 1 foot pedestal. You can see my post about that and more pictures on my review of the rock. Be sure to travel up the road a couple miles and visit the “Potholes”, it is a beautiful area where the small river has cut through the granite stone and has created various pools. The area is very popular for swimming but it is also very dangerous. You can also see my post of the potholes just down the road to get here.

Love this place! It's not in the monument, so it's a great place to run my little dog
