As of August 2023, every approach to the valley Mirror Lake is in the burn scar from the 2020 Cameron Peak fire. Approaches for miles in every direction are fireweed, daisies, etc., and burned pines and aspens. It makes for a tough hike on a hot day, as you'll have almost no shade cover whatsoever. This particular valley, however, is unburned and beautiful. It seems that with the higher moisture content and the west>east nature of the fire, the valley containing upper Cascade Creek and Mirror Lake was spared. It's quite a relief after (minimum) 5 miles to see unburned forest in this area of Rocky. Mirror Lake can be quite cold even in August, with some unlucky nights resulting in frost for campers, so be prepared. The lake is beautiful, the one right behind it perhaps even more so, and the sites are all quite nice and fairly close to the lake compared to some other places in RMNP. Unfortunately the trailheads accessing the area are right now quite a mess. Getting to Mirror Lake today requires either an 11 mile hike that starts in basically marshland, or Corral Creek TH which has a fairly steep 6 mile approach.
