Absolutely amazing! This place is on my short list of favorite places in Montana! So much history here!!! Very clean campsites and bathrooms. Even handicapped access camp sites 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The facilities are well-maintained and the area is family friendly. Multiple trails connect to the river, historic sites and information/education kiosks.
More RV centered than tent-friendly. Only about half the sites have a flat place to pitch tent and drive pegs and all sites are very close to the road running down the centre. It is surrounded on two sides by wetland so space is tight. Best sites are 16 and 17 at the far end if you can snag them. A bonus is a very friendly on-site host. Not far from the entrance is the overflow area with a large field beyond. Though rules require all dogs on leash in the campground, well-behaved dogs might have a free run in this area. The Headwaters of the Missouri State Park is right across the road. Look for some good interpretive displays for Lewis & Clark enthusiasts. There are several 1-2 hour flat hikes beginning from there to the confluence of the Madison, Gallatin and Jefferson rivers. Town of Three Forks nearby. Excellent grocery store and diners.
If it wasn't for the damn mosquitoes this place would be the best. You're dry camping. No dump station but fresh water available
Not the best state park, but great info on the history. Small hike with almost no elevation gain. My kids loved it. I can see it being too hot in the summer as there's no cover. They do have a picnic area that has shaded areas. Watch out for cacti.
