Customer Reviews
We have been exploring and camping in the Adirondack’s for years and decided to check this campground out. Nice views from some sites. Shower and bathroom’s are well maintained and clean. We found the sites a bit too close and offered little privacy. The road in the area we camped in is full of pot holes and is in serious need of work. It looks as if they milled it to repave it but never finished the job. Some sections are down to gravel or dirt. I imagine it was nice at one point. Biking was not enjoyable to say the least. Our fire pit was not in good shape but we cleaned it out and realigned the stones that had broken away best we could. Not one of our favorite spots. Oh and did I mention the seriously dead tree?
Love it here! The views are amazing, the staff are awesome. This is a large campground with camping on both sides of the lake so there are many sites on or near water. The beach is clean and spacious as are most of the campsites.
Just spent the weekend on site 117 , the views and sunsets were amazing. Geese and loons all day and all night . Site was enough to house a 20’ pop up and 10 x 10 screen tent easily with room to spare. To fish from your site you pretty much had to climb some huge rocks and fish from there which could be a chore for older arthritic or disabled people and rather dangerous for smaller children. The bathrooms were clean but no paper towels for drying hands by our site. Shower house has hand dryers and the showers are immaculate ( no spiders) with plenty of hooks and a curtain that hangs between you and a space to keep your towel and clothes dry . The beach was gorgeous but every step was goose poo. Not fun. Overall a wonderful woodsy experience . Other great sites we noted were 125 ( no water) , 112 ( water) 118 ( water) 120 ( mini beach) 138 ( near showers , lake view)
The scenery is breath taking. Really a spot to check out. Especially campsites 240 -260 sunset or sunrise. Campsites are on top of each other tho thats the only down fall in my opinion. Wish they were spread apart more.
I have camped at Moffitt Beach many times over the past 4 decades. This camping experience was a little “different” (summer 2021) as while we were here we went through one of the worst multi day storms with hale, tornados & torrential rain the Adirondacks had seen in a very, very long time. Although our campsite was 3.5 miles from the entrance (no cell, text or WiFi - Verizon network) I can honestly say we still had an awesome and memory filled mini vacation at this still very well maintained campground. We stayed at site 253. It was a water site that was very private, in a sheltered cove on the lake that saw a lot of traffic (from a distance, didn’t affect privacy) from kayakers exploring the rocky cove and jumping out for a cooling swim in the pristine lake. All the sites are well graded, and low hanging/lose branches are well cleared, so despite two days of torrential rain, winds & hail, we weren’t waterlogged. We car camped with a clamshell tent off the back of our SUV, as the sites are RV (no hook ups) or tent/car camping only. Water spigots are located nearby most campsites and we had two very nearby, along with the standard fire pit with grate and picnic table. Our bathrooms were located nearby & are still kept immaculately clean. Full flushes and sinks, a bank of 5 or so private shower stalls (full individual rooms with metal doors with seated changing area & free hot showers) that were also immaculate and and outdoor dish washing/cleanup station. As far as cleanliness, this campground never disappoints. There is a well equipped camp store, although off high season hours are limited. Firewood & ice is available continually on an honor system payable via money box or smart phone link. Kayak and bike rentals are also available. Moffitt has a beautiful, long stretch of clean, sandy beach and swimming, besides a boat launch. Rangers patrol the area in golf carts regularly. Generator hours are strict, so generator noise wasn’t really a nuisance. There are pavilions, grill areas and bathrooms near the beach and through the campground flushes & showers. Water sites are the “hot ticket” here, so they do book up well in advance. Plan accordingly. Many people come up to this campground every summer. Moffitt is close to Charlie John’s general store where you can get just about anything from B food to gear, food offerings in town and all major roads in the area. The one caveat to camping here is there are black bear. We didn’t see any this year, but I’ve had bear encounters here in prior years. The campground has a very strict policy regarding food & garbage handling as well as food lockers if you aren’t willing to store things in your car or RV & you can be evicted for not adhering to the policy, as the Adirondack park is home to over 4000 black bear, who aren’t particularly afraid of you. Bear spray during high season might be advisable if you are an über cautious sort. The wildlife are friendly (birds, chipmunks & squirrel to mama a few) and you might seem them in your backpack or in your table enjoying your meal with you. No fear. I personally enjoy that, but just be advised if you are a camping noob to this area… Definitely will continue to return to this lovely and well maintained lakeside campground in the pines!
