Wonderful Campground! Staff is friendly & helpful. When you arrive you must check in at the office where you’ll receive a map, pass, and rules. There is a coded entry in the evening. We stayed here for the first time at site 33, in a 40” 5th wheel RV. Definitely don’t plan on having WiFi connectivity while camping here! We had hit or miss with T-Mobile hotspot, and very little with Starlink. Our site was back in, with full tree coverage. Water & electric hook ups. Picnic table and fire pit, gravel site. Saw Lots of deer and a little male buck came to visit our site, every evening. Loved all the trails and the beautiful Japanese Garden! Rained a lot when we camped, so some of the trails were muddy. Lookout area is breathtaking and we saw a beaver just hanging out! Be prepared there are Lots of insects, including ticks & ants at our site. Bathhouse ok, only 1 washer & dryer. The Playground at the State Park was nice, and some upgrades being done. It is Approx. 20 min to Huntsville to go shopping and to restaurants & Space Center.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The wildlife, mostly deer, squirrels and birds, were everywhere. The sunrise at the overlook was picturesque. The trails for biking and walking were well marked. The camp store has just enough to get you by.

I'm a primitive campgoer and have traveled back-and-forth cross country, albeit mostly at free campsites - this is "luxury" and worth the fee. Even others I have paid for that tote bathrooms onsite, are usually outhouses with an accessible water pump nearby (and I thought that was an upgrade). This has an actual bathroom facility with coin-operated laundry machines. Their glamping tents look pretty awesome, huge by tent comparison, complete with picnic table, grill and even Christmas lights! For those "roughing" it on the dirt roads in the back - the sites are really quite large (can easily fit multiple vehicles) and to our delight and surprise the fire pit COMES with an attached grill grate ! We're used to a few bricks and a metal sheet, so needless to say the family LOVED it !!!

Smells like poopy because campers don't have a designated place to dump so they dump at there campgrounds the Japanese garden is pretty though some of the plants were wilting. The people here are very nice.

We’ve camped several times here. We love it! We usually get the back loop near the primitive tent camping. Sites #67 or #69. The lots towards the back have more space between the sites than the ones near the entry gate. Sites are gravel and fairly level. Dump station has 2 stations. Never had to wait to use them when leaving. Camp store is nice and stocked with the essentials. We love biking and hiking here. Numerous trails for all levels of difficulty. Great location. 15 minute drive and you’re in downtown Huntsville close to nice restaurants. Highly recommend this campground.

This is the second time we visited this park since we had a great experience the first time. The temperature is typically beautiful this time of year. This park offers many places to hike accessible from our campsite. There's a Japanese garden that we could explore. Worth checking out. We didn't get to go this time, but we hiked through parts of it. The campsite that we stayed at is pretty flat. The kids enjoyed riding their bikes all over. So many areas to explore. This is a place we'll visit again and again.

We stayed at Monte Sano State Park for 5 nights and this is our 178th stop. We used this stop as a jumping off point to Huntsville and to enjoy the park. The initial registration via the website was easy to use but only receive one email leading up to your stay. The drive up the mountain was fine with our large motorhome as long as you take the route indicated in their correspondence. The check in process was super quick and appreciate the coded entry. The biggest challenge was maneuvering the rig into our site as the car across the street made it very tight and the one way roads are narrow. The site sloped down in the front so it took a bit to level it and had large gravel with landscape timbers around it. The utilities were located in a good position - we had full hook ups where there just 21 in the park. The park is heavily wooded and cool on a hot day. Nice space between you and your neighbors. It is a good place to reconnect with nature, get in a great hike and is quiet/peaceful. And in mid-May, no bugs. Overall, would rate a 4.7 and would stay here again in the future. Another excellent state park in Alabama. Connectivity: Verizon (not really); T-Mobile (227 down/1.86 up); park WiFi next to office (9.8 down/2.4 up); 50 channels over the air.
