Stayed here on our 4th trip to Shoshone. I liked that it wasn't as far in as a lot of the campsites that we have stayed in before. We hit the wind on our way in so it was nice to be able to stop a little short. I was afraid I'd be disapointed not being in our favorite spot but soon found that there isn't a bad site on the lake. The shoreline of this site sits protected in a cove from the winds of the rest of the lake leaving you with amazingly calm water in the mornings and evenings. My favorite part of the trip was paddling out each evening with my 7 year old to watch the sunset on the perfectly flat water of our cove. Water was even calm enough that we played in the water. We practiced swamping/righting a canoe and the kids even flipped one over and walked under the upside down canoe like they do in the movies. Cold water but doable for a bit... The site has some great areas that are hidden in the trees. Huge cooking/gathering area away from the tents (probably 50 yards away?). Plenty of tent spaces. We set up an 8 man tent in a big spot and could have easily set up 3 or 4 other 4 man tents in other areas. Following the trail along the shore past the tent sites gives you great views. I set up my hammock up on a cliff that overlooked the lake and it couldn't have been a more picturesque place to nap.
