Moose Loop Military RV Campground is conveniently located at Fort Wainwright, AK 99703, USA. Being situated directly on a military installation offers a unique blend of accessibility and security. For eligible users, gaining entry to Fort Wainwright is the first step, and the campground is then easily navigated within the post. Reviews indicate that while the campground itself is central on the post, exiting and re-entering the main gate may be required for certain excursions. This is a common aspect of base living and a small trade-off for the security and amenities provided.
The address places you right in the heart of Fairbanks, allowing for relatively easy access to local attractions, supplies, and services within the city, once you exit the post. Furthermore, the base itself offers a wealth of facilities that campers can utilize, enhancing the overall convenience of staying at Moose Loop. Its location on Fort Wainwright also provides a sense of community and safety often sought by military families and personnel, making it a particularly attractive option for those accustomed to or preferring a military environment. Navigating to the campground typically involves proceeding through the main gate and following signs for Outdoor Recreation or the RV Park.

$35/night for power and water. No sewer hook up but there is a dump station. Facility is pretty well kept. No toilets in the loop, and a bit of a walk to the toilets/showers/laundry. There is also a dry camping area elsewhere on the post. Ft Wainwright fitness center was excellent!
$30 for power & water sites. Various sizes for any kind of rig. Just over $5 to wash & dry laundry. Showers are free & the shower rooms are fine, good water pressure & quite hot. There is a sani dump, trash bins, & potable water filling area. 2+ mile walk to the commissary/exchange along bike path & sidewalks. Only downside is the road exits you off post, so if you need to drive the circle & go through the main gate again whenever you leave.
No sewer hookups which make for an inconvenient longer stay since we are here for a pcs and waiting for a house. The price is less than 1/2 the price of the campgrounds in town. They have less than 10 electric with water hookups. The area is nice and wooded and not right on top of each other like the ones in town. Overall, it's been a good experience and close to everything you need on post. There is a dump station down the road with pay laundry and pay showers.
It is a convenient spot on the post however it is very poorly managed. When we arrived there was an RV already in our spot that had been confirmed twice. It was nearly 8pm so we took the first open spot and called the office first thing in the morning. They changed our location and were assured we were “good to go”. The next morning there was a knock on our door informing us that we were on the wrong spot and someone was needing to move in. We explained the situation and had to go to the office to verify our registration. We were told there was no mention of our previous conversation but that it would be corrected. Had the communication been better all of the back and forth to the office could have been avoided. If you plan to stay there ensure you have paperwork in hand. Apparently there is also an overbooking problem and that also leads to issues.

Campground is quiet with trees and a healthy supply of mosquitos. Lol. We are in Alaska! It's right next to the Chena River with a boat launch, a park for Frisbee golf and walking paths. Playgrounds are blocked off/closed (deemed not safe anymore), so kids can't play on them. Shower rooms do not get stocked/cleaned on Tues/Wed and the hours posted for them to be cleaned is not accurate.
